Post subject: | ??? Question about Diamond City Trailer Axle |
I have a Diamond City Trailer toting a 1751 Excel with a 35 Gatortail on the back. I lost both bearings on my last trip to Arkansas this year. I replaced them and limped it back to East TN. I Arrived home to see my rims have been fried from the heat. I'm sandblasting and repainting them. My question is do I need a larger axle for this boat/motor combo. I have had this trailer for some time now, and used to have a 1548 xpress with a 25 merc >never any problems. I load my boat down with heavy gear and was just wondering if I needed to upgrade my axle once and for all before I miss any more fishing and hunting due to my trailer axle. |

You should have a 3500# axle. You should be fine. Now that you have new bearings just keep them greased up. |

Both failed within 100 miles of each other. I have 15" wheels on it now with 205/???/15 tires. Both were bad by the time I got home. I'm sure the cause is my spindles are shot as well. It will be cheaper to buy a whole axle than it will to throw parts at what I have. |

yep. I kept them greased on a regular basis. I had it in LA to pick up my rig, and AR 3 times before they shot their last wad. |

Most trailer axles come with crappy Chinese wheel bearings. You guys that work in the oilfield know about Chinese shackles and how crappy they are. Do yourself a favor and find a Timken dealer and get some bearings made in the USA. Stay away from the pre packaged ones they sell at Academy and other stores. I've had nothing but trouble with Chinese bearings including two complete failures. I clean and repack yearly and still had problems. Since going to Timkens made in the USA, life is good. |

If your spindles are bad, get a new galvanized spindle lube axle. Makes life way easier when re-greasing your hubs. http://www.championtrailers.com/galvani ... -axle-aot/ |
