If used only for the boat, then I would tell you to go with a big screen (4-5") and color screen. I love my garmin 172c b/c it has an internal antenna vs. a seperate puck antenna. I love mine b/c of backtracking for bowfishing at night, sometimes you can get turned around pretty easily in some of them ponds.

Garmin Etrex Vista HCx. The topo and or lakes software is a must. Good luck.

Had a Garmin GPSmap 60CSX and a 76CSX. Both are excellent choices. Garmin seems to be the most user friendly manufacture. Like said before, the software programs available make a big difference. Good luck.

Lowrance ifinder Hunt C..Just about the same as the H2O. The Hunt C is camo and the H2O is blue.. Both of them are great, only issue I have with mine right now is the 12v plug has a broken tab on it and it keeps coming unpluged. It will not run long on batteries.

I want a large screen color satilite map GPS that work as good as my IPhone and is as easy to use. Gps can be very complicated for no reason other than to jack up the price IMO.

Garmin GPSMAP 60csx (the csx has an electronic compas built in that you dont have to be moving for it to tell you north) I just bought mine from Cabelas with the Topo map of the entire US for $329. I love it. So much easier to use than my Magellan was.

Oh and the iFinder is a nice series but the battery life sucks

With the map cards/software for lakes do you "see" the terrain in relation to where you're located?

Also if you purchase the software maps, will you're premarked points be shown on the map?
Other than the compass and barometer are there any major differences in the garmin 76Cx vs the 76CSx?

Poker, I would stay away from the delorme models. I was checking out some units this afternoon at the bass pro.. a sales rep and customer were coming back in the store (demoing a unit) customer said the delorme wasnt working due to the heavy cloud cover.

Thought you might like to know that!

If you've got an extra G hanging around, the Lowrance HDS 7 is a good unit. It'll take chips too. I've got this model in my mudboat and a Lowrance 37C in my bigger duckboat.

No matter what you get, the bigger the screen the better. Also chips are great for lakes or rivers but not worth a crap on big swamps. All they show you is a blank area for the most part. I usually scout something out, save my track and go back on it to get out safely. They work great in fog and dark conditions. Just keep your speed below 5 mph and stay on your track.
