Post subject:  New Gator-Tail Trim

I have an older (2006) GTR 35 that I bought used with low hours and now has 150 hours on it. I love this motor and have always had good experiences in dealing with Gator-Tail .
A year and a half ago the trim unit started leaking oil so I sent it in for a rebuild. It's worked great since, and still does, but it's again leaking around the shaft. I can either send it back to GT to get it rebuilt (@$150), which puts my boat out of service for at least two weeks, or I can upgrade to the new unit for $550 I think.
I'd appreciate any feedback from someone with experience as to whether or not the old trim will be a chronic problem with continual rebuilds, or if it's worth the additional upfront cost of upgrading. If I upgrade, and knowing that I have the old trim/relay system, is the replacement a simple plug in/install or would I have to upgrade anything else to make it work.
I know that it's an older motor, but this is just a simple component issue, it runs great, and has given me no reason to write it off, so I want to wait until Gator-Tail comes out with something new (other engine options, EFI, etc) to have other options before looking to buy a new motor. I can't wait to have something shiny and new, but have a solid motor so have the luxury of wait and see.
Thanks in advance for reading, and thanks for any feedback.

My motor has 230 hours on it with the original trim unit, still works like a charm ( the trim that is ). I'd love to put a new trim unit on my motor but hate to replace what ain't broke. In your case a new trim unit might be worth it being that uv allready put a good bit of money into your original one. Good luck with whatever you choose

If you planning on up grating motors in a year or so it's a no brainer to me. Rebuild the old one

You'll have to wire in the new trim, its very easy and the new trim will come with a new mounting plate for the front that's an easy install. The new ones are way better
