Boat is not performing like it should be with no load I have a stage 2 by Calen. The motor pushes hard no dout about that.
it's on a 18x48 with 3/16 bottom with 1/8 sides with catwalk and a 6 ft deck with a 14 gal alunimum tank up front can't seem to get it over 30 what I don't understand ran it last night with 4 people 2 batteries ice chest pulled out my gps running 29-30 and it does the same if I'm by my self with that load I was turning 4150 seemed to be the sweet spot with a load. But I can't figure out why it won't run by my self

It's a stock prop but it's modified the guy I got it from had a bead welded along the edge of each blade to make it last longer. And it was to much prop for him so I bought it off him cause we run a lot of sand it held up all season but yea it is a stock prop that i know of

If those speeds are real dont know what the problem is not many boats can run that fast with 4 boys and gear.

RPM-Speed ratio seems about right.

How many Rpms are you running by yourself ?

Author:  benelli08 [ Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:04 am ]
Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

That's what in saying the boat does awesome with a load just don't preform by my self.
Rpm by my self are at like 4500 -4600
Rpm loaded Down is 4100-4150

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

I would try a new stock prop before anything. Your boat isnt hooked?

Author:  duckduckboom [ Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:22 am ]
Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

I would measure the prop before buying a new one. Worn props normally equal higher Rpms. I would check te throttle linkage. You may not get getting the full travel j would also talk to Calen and see what you out of the water Rpms should be at. But I would imagine you should be getting somewhere close to 4500

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

Im not saying its worn, just thinking the modifications to it may be keeping it from running fast.

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

I just got it back from Calen wendesday he just went through it and fixed everything he said it's running perty good and that boat better not be hooked I just had that boat built with 3/16 bottom and extra braces on the bottom cause I Usto have a gator tail hull but in two years the area we run destroyed the bottom it was hooked in 3 spots I'll measure the prop when I get home

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

If they welded a bead on the backside of the leading edge it will slow it down. That's why Hopkins props don't run as fast because they are so thick on the leading edge.

I would agree its a prop issue if the speeds are the same at 4100 and 4500

My buddy let me use his. He has one if the first ones that they used for testing I ran it this weekend I noticed that the prop is not pulling with the tips of the blades cause they still have that rough texture while the base of the prop is smooth but I put on my 2 blade with the same load and the 2 blade out preformed it better hole shot and top end idk if that prop is just a bad one or what but I wasant impressed with it and it's heavy I know It got another blade on it but still

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

Take a grinder with a buffing pad to the backside of the one you have and make it a knife edge. If it fixes the problem you know its the prop if it doesn't then have a bead welded back on it like you have now.

You dont know anyone with a stock gator-tail prop in good condition?

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

Brand new no we all run the same area and mines the one with the Least wear. And it had about a 3/8 thick bead along the whole thing you can tell it wore our more on the sides than the tips

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

I think a stock prop will bump you up to around 32 maybe 33 mph deep water.

Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

Guess I'll just have to buy one and see so y'all think the 2 blade reigns over the 3 blade everybody got different opinions

Author:  BayouBuster [ Mon Mar 03, 2014 5:42 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: A lil help please

Looks like they welded up the front side too. Buff that weld down and see what happens. I like the 3 blade I bought but I haven't ran it enough to know if I'll like it in the thick grass. I have a feeling ill run my 3 blade for fishing and 2 blade for frogging.

I may just keep the prop like it is cause it's really tough that's a whole season of running sand and stumps and it still does decent keep it for the tough stuff and get a 3 blade for like you said cursing and fishing

Nick 4 guys running that speed is good man! It runs loaded, and that's all you can ask for, but you still can't beat THE TANK! You try, I got to fine you that. I'm fixing to build be a new 18X46 like you had and we going to hook em up!
