For those with inboard mudboats, where did you get your transmission?

 Re: transmission for inboards
Forever Dragging may be a pirate ninja but he knows his stuff about inboard transmissions. They ain't cheap. The alternative is direct drive with no reverse.

 Re: transmission for inboards
Were looking at throwing something together to cut some ditches on our lease. Podna ran across a subaru engine and were thinking about doing it.

 Re: transmission for inboards
BM, if your lease is overgrown bAd a Subaru might not get it done. I had a 15/48 with a v-6 and behind decade it was just enough to cut it. FYI...

 Re: transmission for inboards
All depends on the reduction. Also the hydraulic clutch will rob 20% of your horsepower

 Re: transmission for inboards
Keep this in mind when building an inboard. Most Subaru's run a velvet drive 1:1 ratio turning a 11x11 wheel usually around 4500 rpms. Take an 80 hp engine minus 20% power loss = 64hp. My briggs inboard with mechanical clutch 1.5:1 ratio turns an 11x12 at 4300rpm engine speed. That subaru will walk the dog on my boat in open water. In lilies I have the upper hand.

 Re: transmission for inboards
Nothing wrong with a Subaru. I've been n subarus that walked the dog on a 302. Reduction is everything. Get a 1.5:1 or a 2:1 and ull never look back

 Re: transmission for inboards
Put a V8 in I with a 1:1 velvet drive r whatever. 14" wheel. Blacktop won't slow it down.
