Not sure what brand of paint Uncle J used on his boat but its made for aluminum. All ya do is spray the boat with aluma bright, rinse off and dry, and shoot the paint. No primer needed. It works good and doesnt scratch too easy. |

I painted mine and I am well satisfied. I have a few nicks and scratches from froggin and hunting, but the adhesion has been really good. When painting bare aluminum, preparation is the key. You need to clean the surface really well with soap and water. I lightly sanded the whole surface for better adhesion, then hit it with Alumabrite. There is more grease and grit than you think. I used yellow zinc chromate for the primer with an industrial paint coating on top. Both came from Vida paint supply in Houma/Morgan City. I hear pretty good stuff about the Duralux. If I heard correctly the Duralux is a paint and primer in one. I guess if I had to I would do it all over again; but I have to tell you; do not underestimate the size of this job if you do it correctly. It takes some work, and the camo job can be a pain in the ass. |

I don't know where you're at... but if I had it to do all over again, I'd take my boat to Kevin Ledford and pay him to do it. By the time I bought the paint, it wasn't much more to pay Kevin to do it. He paints the boats for ProDrive, and if he paints it, it is guaranteed to be done right. I know it isn't what you asked about, but it is an option. |

I use the Richards (3) three part Acrylic Aliphatic Polyurethane Enamal paint. Stuff wears like iron. For those that have seen my boats can attest. The paint on my a/b lasted (6) six seasons before a repaint & the only reason I did it was I had to replace the polymar. |

Alright... Everyone is making painting a Alum. boat out to be alot more that what it truely is. Shrieverboy was correct by stating DURELUX as the Manufacturer of the Paint. The name of it is Alum. Boat Green. You can see the color of my boat on my Profile, and Tenpoints (hes in my boat). You will need paint, alum. bright, water hose (with water), and paint roller/brush. Paint runs about $40.00 gallon. Alum. Bright runs about $20.00 Step 1 : Bring Boat to Carwash, and wash with Degreaser. Step 2 : Use a Weed Sprayer, and spray down boat with Alum. Bright. This etches the Alum. *Same thing as blasting, but it does not hurt the surface. Step 3 : Let the Alum. Bright sit on the boat for approx. 15 minutes. Step 4 : Spray down with hose pipe Step 5 : Let boat dry Step 6 : Roll Durelux paint on with paint roller. * its that easy.. I treat my boat as it i stole it, and any place that doesnt have paint, also doesnt have alum. Meaning the scratch is deep. HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!!!!!!! Uncle J |
