I am in the market for a used mud motor, and I have never run a godevil surface drive. How are they? Please give me some advice, positive and negative. I will be mostly running in the marsh in south Louisiana

I absolutely loved my 23 and love my new 35 even more. Very easy to drive in shallow water or deep water. They are very easy to work on as well. Today I took it in lake palourde in some windy and rough conditions. I had no issues at all. It does not have any vibration issues. Very easy to drive. Go devil makes a very simple surface drive.

Simple - Rugged - Reliable and the longer outdrive is
an asset over harder sandy or rocky bottoms....

Very easy to drive on longer runs - with almost
no tiller torque at max throttle....

I was in a very abusive relationship with mine for awhile but once you learn how to handle the thing, it is great. I have had a few issues with the Briggs but none with the GD half of it.

They dnt have all the bells and whistles but its just more stuff to mess up you always hear about clutches burning up on the others

its all about your budget or what you wanna spend on one

I have a 27 GDSD, and I'm happy with it.

My only complaint would be lack of reverse/neutral when running lines. With that said, I rarely need those features when hunting, and the money I save on the GD was plenty to buy a good used outboard.

I've got the 35 SD. Likes the others have said. Good, tuff, simple motor. Easy to handle even on long runs your not wore out. Like the rest said only thing negative: no reverse/neutral but now that I'm use to not having it I don't miss it.

^^^All of the above^^^
With that being said, I love mine as well. I can't speak for the 35 briggs, but the 27 Kohler is very good on gas. I rode 63 miles on less than 6 gallons.

They don't have neutral, but you can pick them up like the longtails, correct?

Best bet is to just go run one and see if you like it. Being in South Louisiana, I'm sure someone around you has one, and would go for a ride.

GDSD are strongly built and reliable mud motors. I've had three GD Mud Motors since 2003, and really enjoy my 2010 GDSD 35 which I am running now along the coastal inshore and backcountry waters.

I have had my GDSD since 2005. I have no regrets. I have modded my motor by flowing the heads, built a better intake manifold and built a better exhaust. Good dependable rig.
