Well I've owned a GDLT.. Switched to an outboard.. And now finally made it to the sd world.. Picked me up a new (used, no tach but under 15 hours max) this evening.. Can't wait to get it on the boat.. It's goin on a 17x44 alweld .. 16in transom, 20in sides.. It has the 3 blade on it. And I can tell the throttle/idle Could use some adjusting already.. Any suggestions on mounting/ breaking in and what not would helpful.. Thanks !! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399343532.589274.jpg

LOL - the kiddo looks sad - like Dad put my swings back up

Seriously - looks nice...

Tips - go buy 15 to 20 feet of small (do not oversize) 1/4 to 3/8 gas line
mount the tank as far forward on the port (left looking ahead) side as you
possibly can to help balance the boat - run that hose back and thru a
transom mounted water separator/filter with the big removable screw on
filters - then to a pump bulb and up to the engine fuel filter - solves lots
of problems.... Lastly and you will get tons of debate on this - never
run a drop of anything except Chevron 93 thru it - after I adopted this
personal policy uncounted repairs and maintenance went away.... Most
brands of fuel have a powder EPA additive that settles out in a boat
tank between uses - the Chevron 93 has techron a liquid additive that
is not prone to that and it has twice the "shelf life" or storage life - I
only put stabil in before or after storage - other than that "just use it" ! ! !

2nd tip - while on trailer adjust your bottom limit stop deep - such that
the cavitation plate can get 2" to 3" below the bottom of your hull... That
will allow you to dig in mud - and let the tracking fins lift it at speed as they
were designed to do.... Can't see the "quick release" in the pics which
you might want if you have stumps to cross - a quick flip and the prop
can drop like another 12" which is super handy climbing slow over big logs...

Happy Trails !

Just use marine fuel ( 100% Gasoline ) and no worries.

I also use Stabil just because.

Eye Candy --- Browning 1911-22 that mama got me this weekend....

Since you have a Browning Avitar - one of John Bs finest designs was the 1911...
A 100 years and still going strong ---- just like a GD...

Well step 2 is done.. Having a neighbor with a front end loader on the tractor was very nice.. Although as I was about to drop it on the transom , I forgot that I had a brace going from transom to rear seat but was not a problem before because I had a jackplate for the outboard.. But to my surprise when I looked at the mounting bracket on motor I thanked coco for his genius design that saved me a lot of trouble. Hopefully be able to run it some this weekend ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399401489.504796.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1399401502.895004.jpg

Didn't make it to the water but I got to mess with the motor, run my gas tank up front and put my tiny tach on from trail tech.. I have a lot of slack in the cable, took most out to where the RPMS were 3900-4000... BUT it will not idle on its own at all.. I know there's plenty of threads and I've read some but to clarify , will this be adjusting a screw or pulling more slack out of the cable fix?

Common problem to loose the governed idle spring... If spring is still
present you may need to bend the tab toward the muffler....

Some would've said to wait and buy a real mud boat but don't have the money so working with what I have.. Few upgrades along the way ImageUploadedByTapatalk1410289858.629214.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1410289871.256337.jpghe went a little overboard with the thick housing but I told him I wanted to be able to stand on it, jump, and dummy proof so I guess that's what he came up with ImageUploadedByTapatalk1410289953.267861.jpg

Do yourself a favor and pop a mikuni on it. Idk what exactly it will do when using that hull but I know my tank of a boat picked up 4 mph after installing that new carb. Went from bumping 24 to a sold 28.3 with just me. They may be expensive but the difference in response is night and day.

Now before I got it raised I was running 26-27mph by myself, 17x44 alweld. Not a true mud hull. I was getting a lot of splash back due to water hitting the lowest part of LU and figured it was costing me some performance. Well got to run it today and nothing's changed. Kinda disappointed, figured it would run slightly better, I have very very small amount of water hitting the LU like before, so I know that part of it has improved. I saw 28-29 on my phone gps but then it went back down to a steady 26. All deep water speeds. 2012 35hp motor, almost 70hrs. 3 blade prop. I looked at the bottom of my hull closer to transom and didn't see anything noticeable. I'll measure prop when I get a chance.

Any ideas on maybe what's slowing me down? Or should this be what I'm expected to run as far as speeds?

I swore I'd never be this picky about speeds but this bothered me not having the right transom height and now that I do and nothing's changed

Post subject:  Re: I'm pumped

Trim that motor up. Water should not be hitting the LU.

You should be turning a few more rpm's probably.....3800 in the sweet spot sounds pretty weak.

We can mess with it on the river. My guess it's where your trim is set.
