Just bought a boat with frogspit on it. Its kinda chipped and scratched. Wanting to know if someone on here knows if steelflex can be applied over frogspit. If so, Im sure Id have to rough it up first, just dont know if the steelflex would stick. Im gonna call Fasco(makers of steelflex) tomorrow but just wanted to know if someone might know. Appreciate any help. |

Been kind of having a similar question....Can the steelflex go over a painted surface roughed up, or does the SF have to go on to bare aluminum? |

Hey someone asked a really good question today about coatings for the bottom of mudboats..Has anyone ever tried to apply just a regular epoxy paint to the bottom??? Would it hold up????? |

You can put steelflex on a painted surface. Just sand it with 60 grit paper to scuff it , clean it up, and wipe it down with acetone to get any oils or greese off, then apply the steelflex. Did mine this way and it has held up fine. Just make sure you don't put it on too thin or it will chip fairly easily. Mix up a little at a time and allow it to thicken a little before you apply so you can get an even thick coat. |

If you have the option I would expect bare metal would be better than applying over paint. Steel flex is an expoxy and if the paint lets go you loose the bond. Just my opinion. You can apply steel flex over steel flex within 24 hours according to Fasco. After that you have to rough up the surface. If the frog spit is letting go of its bond putting anything over it is constrained to the bond of the base coat. |

How is SteelFlex applied? Brushed on, or applied with a spatula/straight edge? |

mine is chipping too. i went to a carwash the other day and a lot of it came up wit da pressure sprayer...try that 1st. i also think im gonna use a wire wheel on the parts that are flaking cause i know its just gonna peel back up sooner or later. |
