Post subject:  why the lack of horsepower?

ok guys I have to rant a little i was sitting doing some work on the computer while my sister was watching americas next top model and they were in thailand and they were showing some of the long tails with some BIG motors on them how come one of our beloved mudmotor companies hasn't sent someone over there to check these things out? obvioulsy they are working so why are we having a development gap? how come we are still in low horsepower applications? seems like if somebody would jump horsepower alot they would get alot of attention can somebody quit my rant with sound reasoning lol

What the hell are going to do with a motor that weighs so much?

The difference is those setups many times begin their life on the water and end it there.

Dude I been wondering the same thing. We had the beavertail predator, that fell through, and these guys are getting 100 mph out of longtails.

I can't help but think that with very little weight gain and a whole lot more performance, there are plenty of lightweight aluminum fuel injected engines that could be ordered and used in a production motor. Damn, air cooled motorcycle engines cost not much more than a new 35 Vanguard, and for not much more I can get a fuel injected GM aluminum 3 cylinder cranking out 100 horses.

i also think that there is another application for mud motors. down south they have that wonderful cakebatter thick mud which todays mud motors thrive in. up north our "mud" is harder i dont get alot of bite in the mud the motor more rides over it but an outboard would go nowhere so mud motors are perfect but there could be improvements for them we have alot of rocks something that takes a little different approach than soft mud i think there is an untapped market for this anybody else understanding me?

Bigger engine, more HP, more RPMs = sand eats prop even faster,

Power / weight ratio and also reliability. Simple engines, easily found parts, network of mechanics that are at least familiar with the powerhead.

Now, when I win the lottery I'm going to have a block machined and build a 90hp mudmotor. 8-)

i think that the more hp you see the more that will be switched over to console rigs easier to hold onto a steering wheel than a tiller and doesn't hurt so much when it kicks lol

Bigger engine, more HP, you guys would really have some broke Chit and then yall would be bitchin about that.

I think we got all we can handle.
