Contact go devil. Good chance you'll wind up talking to the man himself before you're done asking questions.
What are you looking for in a mudrig (lightweight, heavy duty, shallow performance, speed, etc) Planned uses? Things you want your boat to do (turn on a dime, float real high, take a lock from stumps, etc)? Do you want neutral (where the prop actually stops moving)? Do you have a need for reverse? Lots of suggestions can be had, give us something to go on if you want advice. And while you await response to your specifics, use the search feature. I doubt you'll get any advice that hasn't already been covered at least a couple times. But with more info about what you want, people will reply here with useful and even some not so useful advice.

Warren Coco is a super nice guy. Will not hurry you off the phone, answered all my questions last time I talked to him. Spent about 30 min in the phone with me even shooting the shit about his duck lease south of hackberry. Great customer service!

My only complaint about my dealings with go-devil is their outright refusal to admit someone would possibly need or want neutral/reverse. Seriously. I heard that their rep wanted to refuse to sell to me because I was "ruining their boat" by putting a Gator Tail on it...

Impressed by the boats, not so impressed by the hard-headedness.

I told warren I had a GTR on my go-devil , didn't seem to bother him . But my boat is older might be why. I dunno. But that sucks to hear that

It is what it is. The price is still so good and the quality is high that it won't stop me. But if I were at all on the edge, I would've walked away from them. You don't get customers by telling them they're stupid.

I talk to him several times and he absolutely does not care what you do or put on his boat after you buy it. He actually understands the want and need for some to have reverse. You can achieve neutral on a go devil with the use of a single finger. That is all it takes to pull the prop out because the motor is balanced. He just has not figured out a way to put a reliable reverse system on his motor. He will put it once he develops a system that keeps the motor as reliable as what his customers come to expect from go devil. I have owned a long tail and two surface drives from him and I have yet to have a go devil part break on my motor. I do want to have reverse soon but I love my GD so I am conflicted. It runs and performs at a high level and is very diverse. It can handle rough chop deep water with ease and can handle the junk. People also complain that GD does not have power trim yet they never drove one. I have not had to touch my trim in months. When I am in the junk, I just drop the trim release handle and it digs out. Everyone who runs with me always comments how fast my boat is for a stock motor. I love my GD boat. I have made some adjustments to the interior of it but the design runs very well. I also catch a ton of fish weekly, crab, hunt and frog out of the boat and never really feel like I am at a disadvantage with out reverse. I can turn the boat on a dime. The only time I feel the want for reverse is when I am fucking off with you guys in the junk that I never need to drive in.
PM me if you want more information.

Here's a 35 on a custom 1848.

It does well and gets the job done. Simple and not a lot of problems going to happen.

I like my Go Devil boat. i bought it used and it had waterlogged flotation in the bow and in the floor which I promptly removed and replaced with Styrofoam. It is now about 500# lighter than it was.

I had a Go Devil Long tail for almost 30 years and it was a great motor. Never had major problems that needed fixing and it was a simple design, easy to work on. If I had two good shoulders, I'd still have one, but I've gotten older and needed to switch to a surface drive.

Having never owned a surface drive, I knew I wanted something with a clutch and power trim but Go Devil doesn't offer one. If they'd put clutches and power trim on them, I'd own one in a minute. My long tail was pretty indestructible and if the surface drives are like that, then they're worth owning...

Every time I hear the "no power trim" as a negative from someone regarding a GD surface drive they have clearly never operated one. They don't need power trim. They trim themselves while running. I don't own one but have driven a couple and not having trim has never been an issue. The trim tabs keep the motor where it needs to be. If you need it able to dig out, flip the quick trim and you've got it. They're very well balanced. They're not a "weighted back" design like the others.

Dude I hate that you are having that issue. You will be hard pressed to find anyone to call Go Devil out on quality. Those are not weak links of that equipment. People switch to GTR for reverse. If you think GTR does not have issues you will be in for a a rude awakening. GTR makes an outstanding motor but you have to be able to turn a wrench to keep up with them. GD makes a very reliable motor and rarely does anyone have issues. It sucks that you have these issues but to say it is common is about as inaccurate as you could be. Even people who switch will tell you that the product is reliable and customer service is outstanding. Coco is one of the most honest and trusting people you would ever meet. That is a simple fact.

I am making a switch because I need reverse for what I need to do commercially with my boat. However, I was just having a conversation with Pintail about how hard it was for me to leave GD. They treat you like family. I have had so many great experience with them. He calls it like it is. Very good dude

I bought my GDSD in 2005 that's right 2005 and have had nothing but awesome service from Godevil. So far I have had to replace the belt once, mufflers (warranty),fuel water separate and switched from a two blade to a three blade. Oh yeah with the two blade vibration my lower housing cracked. This was in 2014. GD sent me a support bracing kit with instructions. I MIG welded the Crack and bracing up and back on the water.

I had a PD rig and switched to GD, overall I like the GD better. Yes, sometimes it takes a few seconds longer to trim down than power trim but I knew that coming in. I have yet to be in a situation where I regretted not having reverse, and the GD digs better in the pudding than PD. With that bring said, PD is a very good unit and I liked it, I just wanted to get to a a more simplistic rig and am very pleased withe GD.
