Alright guys, what should I get?? I am military and move around a lot so I want something I can do anything, anywhere with. I know this is a loaded gun topic but give me your honest opinion. Either one with go on a Gator Trax 1738. Any advice is much appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Honestly I wouldn't have any idea until I got somewhere. Right now the rides can be anywhere from 5-30 min. And it's the Mobile, Al delta Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't really want to focus solely on one area. Next year I may be moving somewhere else and would want it to work out there as well. One reason I've been leaning towards a longtail for the versatility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

X2 on the GTR. If your looking to ride and enjoy the rig I would recommend a GTR. The longtails make you work for it. I have ran both, and they do have their positives and negatives. One negative on your boat is the narrow width of the boat. I prefer a wider boat for a longtail, because gives you more room to swing the longtail drive arm. With a 38" bottom you will be hanging over the sides in order to turn the boat around. GTR will be faster, easier to handle, and reverse makes a world of difference. |

There's a 25 hp option GTR if you want you are concerned about engine size for most WMA hp restrictions. |

I'm personally a long tail guy. I run the inferior Go-Devil 27 on an 1856 boat. I'll run it for hrs upon hrs on the weekends. I think the guys who think Long tails are too much work are the guys who spent too much time working on the beer guts. If you're in the military I'm assuming this isn't the case. Backwater 35hp looks like a great option which I may choose to upgrade to as well. Cheaper, less things to go wrong, still pushes a good load at reasonable speeds. Or get the GTR, stick thousands into it for a few more MPH, and bitch when stuff starts breaking. |

For the record I have nothing against the Gator-Tail. I just see so many members jump so quickly to support them on here that many of the questions asked don't stand a chance of receiving a fair, unbiased answer. |

37hp Backwater EFI Longtail on a 1842-48 boat would be very versatile, plenty of speed for longer runs, comfortable as a longtail gets, and narrow enough for tight timber but with a little deck space and the right boat layout you'd be able to hunt and fish out of it. |

If you can swing it, surface drive no doubt. |

Wow, great responses. Yeah, I have heard the backwater is easier on you to drive and I do like how long they'll last. Such a hard decision. I need to test drive a gtr to see how it is before I spend 7600 bucks on one. Very good point Setx, about the boat size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I switched from a 29 MB LT to a GTR this year. The kawi LT was the easiest running long tail I have run, by far, but I can assure you I do not miss one thing about it. The GTR is faster (a lot!), way easier to run (no comparison) and more maneuverable when bow fishing, around the ramp or picking up decoys. I run it here in Florida where we do not have the heavy mud they have in other places but it takes on anything here amazingly easy. |

I agree with the above. I came from a long tail to a prodrive. I haven't missed the long tail for one minute Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

i have a GTR and have a buddy with a 35 Backwater. He can keep up with me on rides. I am running about 27. I would say get whichever you like and can afford. The GTR is nice and i would never go back to a long tail but thats just me. |

I would assume that testing had been done to evaluate whether or not the connectors will hold up. If all else fails put some corrosion preventative on the outside of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So here's another question. What if I just kept my 1542 Alweld and slapped a motor on it instead of a new boat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
