Post Drive shaft length gtr
Correct me if I'm wrong but you can get either a 27" or 32" drive shaft for a gator tail. What are the pros and cons to shorter vs longer drive shaft lengths

Thanks

I believe all of the new shafts are 30". They are the cast lower units.

The older style you could get in 27" or 32".
Longer outdrive is better in the mud, you can dig deeper.
27" outdrive is easier to drive, but not as much reach in the mud.

I have 27" outdrive on my 2011 frame and haven't ever been stuck because of it.
I have been along side of people with 32" outdrives in the mud and they do get moving easier than I do.

Longer shaft puts the prop in cleaner less aerated water behind boat. Gives prop a bit more bite. We have a 40" on one of our motors and it seems to trim out a little flatter at WOT than the shorter shafts. Tilt angle of motor at transom is flatter.
