Old gas

you got an old metal gas tank?

to much stabil?

Put the gas in last week. Plastic tank.
Could the brass fittings in the line cause it?

put a sample in a glass jar and look at -

Clear in the tank. Rust colored in the lines

Must be something in the section of fuel line left front the prev owner. He had the tank in the center bench. I moved it up under the front deck last week and used his line and just added new line I bought at advance auto to extend it.

It is the sun's effect on the gas in the clear gas chamber.

At least that is the best I could determine.

Had the same issue, and there is a post about it from several years ago....

That seemed to be the consensus

Never effected the way the motor ran.

well you stumped this chump - my last guess, voodo (not the daddy) in the lines?

Ran the gas out of it. Gona change the filter tomorrow. Put new gas in and see what happens.

Its the black fuel line. Had some lines like that on my old boat. the fuel lines would turn the gas orange. it wont hurt anything.

I've seen this on a buddy's boAt. I always assumed it was because he also stores his in the hot georgia sun. Never misses a lick,runs fine

I had this same thing with my Longtail. Never affected how it ran, after running a little while it cleared up. I always assumed it was due to it sitting in the heat/sun

Its not the fuel line. I will post up some pictures shortly.

Thats the way real gas used to look like..

Here's two cans of the same gas. The darker one is about 2 weeks older.. It will eventually turn darker. It's just the way it gets as it sits. I run it like that all the time with no issues.

The orange IS from the cheap fuel line.
the gas does change color as it sits, but that
orange is from the fuel line.

I have seen this orange fuel already in the Vapor Separator on the PD EFI system. But not lately.

The only thing I can come up with is the Ethanol in the fuel. I seen this when a engine didn't run for a while.

I had the same issue. I was holding fuel in a 30 gallon drum at my camp for my generator. The gas in drum looked normal. When I would pump it out the drum it would come out normal. I assumed something was rusting inside the pump. I ran it with no issues all season.

Yes and yes. I bought a used PD, the one I have now in 2008. It's a 2007 model. It came with the non rated ethanol fuel line. Within a year of running cheap ass gas, I noticed the engine would spit and sputter. After checking several items on the motor itself, I decided to replace the fuel line. Never looked back and never had a problem. I decided to cut the fuel line open and what I found was that the original fuel line liner had been eroded away. The alcohol in the fuel had attacked the rubber. I then took a piece of it to Dow and had them analyze it in out librication lab, which is adjacent to my office. The rubber was not rated for ethanol. Thus is why ethanol rated fuel line is more expensive that regular line. Different rubber with different properties. So to answer your question, yes and yes by personal experience.

I say use one or the other. Don't flip flop. Regular gas burns dirty, ethanol is a solvent. If you switch back and fourth, you're likely to have more problems when the ethanol knocks all the shit loose that the regular gas caused.

Ethanol is a awesome fuel (better than some race gas)
Way cleaner than gas
Makes way more power than gas
Runs way cooler than gas.

I will stongly disagree....

You are wrong in many ways. I blend gasoline and ethonal does not create more power than petroleum fuels. Ethanol does have a higher research octane around 115-120 give or take. But motor octane which means under a load "true motor octane" it sucks. Ethanol motor octane is roughly 70-75 which is a significant lost speaking of octanes. Also BTU are a lot less so yet it does burn cooler. Petroleum fuels used to blend gasoline hold there octane numbers pretty close on research and motor. Octanes on petroleum fuels can range from 90-100 octane depending on product for research octanes and only drop to 80-90 octane for the motor octane. So your octane lost under true real life situation with ethonal is garbage. You will see better fuel milage and hp out of 100% petroleum gasoline. You say its does not eat up carbs and hoses. Explain how our knock engines (this runs samples to check octane) at work went from annual maint. to monthly maint. when ethanol was introduced. Can't ignore facts its science. I may not know the ins and outs of a mudmotor but I know gasoline.

Either way I'm not putting ethanol in any of my small engines. Especially my boat, I'll drive far enough to find the real thing
