power assist steering on a tiller GTR???
Anyone have experience with power assist steering on a tiller mudmotor?? I have a GTR and looking to adding if possible. I Know Mercury can put it on your Mercury tiller engine and supposedly Mud Buddy can use the Mercury power assist. Curious how it even works, but I know guys who have it on their tiller engines rave about how nice it is for long runs.

Before you try to "re-invent the wheel" why not just convert to hydraulic console steering

Or if you like the responsiveness of a tiller, there is always stick steer

Re: power assist steering on a tiller GTR???
It's not reinventing the wheel. It's using a tiller, as he prefers, and many others do, but adding a comfort feature found on outboards. Not exactly out of the realm of a reasonable idea. I, for one, like the idea, because I don't want a console in my boat, hate using a steering wheel when I'm running a bass boat, and don't want to add stick steering to my current rig due to the space I'll take up to get it rigged right and have the seat for it.
OP, I say if you can figure it out, roll with it and let us know how it all goes.

Re: power assist steering on a tiller GTR???
I called the guys at Gator Tail and they are not aware of any power assist which can be added to their motor. I really do not want a center console in the boat as it is used mainly for duck hunting. Also, when working a motor in deep mud, you are really at a disadvantage with a console type steering . I will let you guys know what I find out. Thanks for the input.

I bet it can be done. Just not going to be an already made "kit" for it. Gonna take some thinking.
