Looking to stay under $2g. Was hoping to stay under 1500 but still looking for the best bang for the buck. ....DPMS? ARMALITE? Any experience or suggestions.

Either are fine rifles. I built my own, so beyond 500 rounds or so through both a dpms and an armalite, I can't speak to how they hold up.

No experience with a 10 but when I was considering building one, I went with the 6.8 SPC II instead. Check it out.

Another option for you that I consider better is a Daniel Defense 300 blackout. Same range and almost same power. It's much lighter too and all you have to do if you ever want to go back to 5.56 is swap barrels. It also has a lot more aftermarket parts you can buy because it is an ar15 frame. I'd seriously look into it unless you are dead set on an ar10. And if you are
Armalite makes some nice guns. They just seem to be a little heavier than their counterparts. Actions sloppy enough to hold a lot of dirt and grime and still fire too so that may be a plus depending on if you want to use it in a hunting evironment.

Saw a DPMS at Academy in .308 for $750 the other day.

Those big bore a.r. rounds aside from 7.62 or 308. I'm speaking more the 300blk or the 458 socom. Those rounds are made for <200 yds

Pretty sure most of MMT is humusexshuls in hiding

Thanks for the input, I like the 300 blackout but am leaning more to the power and availability of 308 rounds

I have shot my friends A.R 10 and really like it. I think it would be the bees knees if they made an AR in like 300wsm or something a little flatter than .308 that is a hunting round that can cycle on the AR platform.

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Get a 260 or 7mm/08 barrel for it.
There are other options too, but those are the simplest swap.

I live within a few miles of Armalite, Springfield Armory, Les Baer, Lewis Machine and Tool (LMT) and Rock River Arms.

I recommend Rock River Arms over Armalite and of course LMT has some pretty spectacular stuff if you want to spend the money.

Id Go GA precision if you want a top notch rifle, but you will pay for it. Again rock river, is another top dog but if i remember correctly you have to use rock river mags and they are pricey, get something that takes pmags

Colt LE901 is a nice one. I have a sig 716 and if i could do it over again, I would save the extre couple hundred bucks so i could buy the colt or a POF gen3 or 4.

I didn't know Rock River used a specific mag for their bigger calibers.

That right there might be a showstopper.

My buddy runs a JP Enterprises AR10 (mostly, not sure whose upper he uses), and it's a tack driver.

JP is probably as best as it gets. Better have that checkbook ready. Out of his price range though.

My Armalite AR-10T was a sub MOA gun out of the box. I shot it in a few combat style matches, running over 400 rounds through it each time with no problems. I have also taken a few deer with it as well. It is a good all around rifle that you don't have to fuss over. You can go crazy with add on shiite and exotic cartridges, but it is hard to beat a solid platform, with a good trigger, in .308 Win.

I had a Remington r-25 in 7 mm 08. It was a badass rifle but it was way fuggihn heavy

Post subject:  Re: AR10 suggestions

I built a 308 with a mega arms upper and lower set. Put a kreiger barrel, jp self contained buffer, low mass bolt carrier w/enhanced bolt, chambering done by kreiger with the bolt in hand, magpul prs, and a bipod on a dpms handguard. Total under 2k. A different stock, upper/lower combo, barrel, and normal buffer, and the cost would be under 1400. Lots of options out there. This one was built to be a 1200 yard rifle, and it's capable. For most applications, it's entirely overkill lol
Total rifle weighs around 11 pounds before the scope. Making changes to those above items would lighten it significantly, and could push it down to around 8lbs just by swapping the barrel to a smaller contour...

Been hearing good things about the S&W M&P10, or Armalite if you've got budget on the brain.

I think the CMMG CBR is the best buy for anything short of a Gap 10 or a KAC

I have a s&w 10 and love it. There is a good review of making consistent 1000 yard shots with them in stock form.

LMT makes a great AR10. It's semi heavy compared to others but is super accurate and reliable. If you look in the right places you can get it for under 2k
