I live in an area that has got to have the highest population of mud dobbers of anywhere in the south united states. The damn things are everywhere. I spend hours knocking down their nests. Recently had one build a nest on the top of my lower pulley that was so hard it made the belt jump teeth. I just got finished rebuilding my lower unit and putting it back on my gator tail. My clutch cover is not the plastic one that comes on the unit, rather it's an aluminum cover. Very simple bell type cover with no vent holes, just completely open on the motor side. I don't have reverse so im really concerned about the clutch over heating, but I really need to figure out a way to keep these pests from sabotaging my rig. Anybody have a good solution?

Lighter fluid and a match. Just douse the engine. It's a briggs, so it's done something to earn it. The heat from that fire shouldn't hurt the frame, but should kill the fuckers. Do that once a week, and problem solved.....

They are persistent. My wife calls them dirt dobbers however I call them mud dobbers. She grew up in Missouri. They plug up my pee hole on my Yamaha outboards regularly.

In South La, they are so plentiful that im willing to bet if you scrape the Attic, boxing and behind the siding on most houses, you can build a small island.

Last year, I closed up the patio on the back of my house. I was approx. 24' long, and had vinyl siding. Once the siding was removed, I swept up a 5 gallon bucked of nest they built behind it.

I kill everyone I see!

When we were first building our houseboat, we didn't have the eve's and attic insulated and sealed yet. With the kids and travel baseball, I didn't get a chance to go to the camp for about 2 months. In that 2 months time, there was so many nests, that when I knocked them all down and cleaned up, I filled a 20 gallon shop vac 3 times with nests. Couldn't hardly carry the fucker. They built nest in everything.

Them little fukers really are bad. They didn't seem to be as bad as this year but usually trying to walk into my shop I gotta part the sea of dirt dobbers to get to the door. But they eat all the spiders so I try not to kill them all..

They do eat a ton of spiders. My wife is terrified of spiders, so she dont mind them, but they just piss me off. I went to use my circular saw a while back and they had the blade completely locked up inside the guard. She was standing next to me when the blade came free and spiders went flying everywhere. I never knew she could run that fast!! LOL
