I always share a pin drop of my intended location, text departure and arrival. Then text return departure and arrival at launch. If I forget any of these I get a call from my wife or son. My son does the same. Twice I've been on the phone with the Sheriff's office dispatching to his location when he finally responded. I don't mess around with this and no one should either. Terrible loss this was and did not have to happen. |

I ALWAYS file a text message or email float plan with my wife which includes plenty of specific details including at times a pin drop. She will know from where I am launching, where I am going and what mu expected return will be. When I can, I give her a text or email to let her know I've arrived and when I'm on my way back. It is a very important habit to get into doing. My wife has no idea of how to get to my camp, Venice Marina or any WMA I'm going to hunt....but, she certainly knows the people to get in touch with if I don't let her know I made it and don't respond to a text or call. Most liberals seem to suffer from the same mental condition....it's called stupidity! |

Just saw lake Kaw on google earth. Pretty wide open reservoir lake which would kick up some pretty good waves in a storm. Terrible miscalculation and judgment that should serve as lesson for all of us. |

No shiznit. With 30mph+ wind we've had the last week or so. If you go out in the middle of a lake that big, your trying to ride through 6ft chop It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

The area they were in is at the mouth of the river coming in to the lake. It's silting in hard for regular boats to get in. Under normal lake level the area is anywhere from a couple inches deep to about 9 foot. Most of it is about 3 foot or so. But the wind is a major issue in that area. I've been out there in 20 mph wind and up in the flat and won't even think about leaving its ridiculously rough. Also a lot of under water trees in the area causing major log jams. The winds were 30+ and we were having gust up to 60 at times. I was told they were here in November in a really small flat bottom and the people were saying they didn't know how they made it then had the boat loaded down way too much. |

We hunted Kaw Lake last month and it was rough in about 20mph winds. Cant imagine 30+. Yall be safe, think of your families first. None of our lives are worth a duck that we can kill tomorrow. |

Shallow water hard bottom big waves equel capsized boat. A dangerous situation. The looks of the corp report was the lake being three feet over so those flats wouldn't pose such a problem. Life jackets would give you a bit more time. Not a whole lot more. Cold water makes for bad decisions. Laugh as you might here. But each and every dog I have has been trained by me to be able to grab his tail. And send him on a cast. In the direction I need. Always wear a good fully charged head lamp. Be aware of your surroundings. Not only in your boat but in your wader pockets have a source of making a fire. NO DUCK Is worth your life. My thoughts go out to there loved ones. |

Got an update on this story. The boat they were in was a 10ft jon boat. They fount the boat not too far from their decoys and found the first guy on bottom, waders full of water near the boat in about 5-7 ft water. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol have to boats out with sonar charting the lake up there looking for the other guy. There are people out on foot and horses looking on land as well as others on boats looking. A buddy of mine talked to the OHP and told them that I have a bass boat that has the side scan and they want me to bring it out possibly tomorrow if they don't have luck in the shallows and have to move to open water. Today the family has brought in some rescue dogs from Missouri that are some kind of specially trained dogs that can pick up scent even under water. |

10' Jon boat? Seriously? I haven't seen that reported anywhere else but if that's the case that's a very unfortunate lapse in judgement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was out there today with my duck boat. Met up with a friend of there's who went out with me. No luck still on finding Craig. The friend that was with me confirmed yes a 10' boat with no motor. They were going to paddle and wade everywhere. The dog was found alive on land close to the body of chase who was in the water. The search still continues though. In the boat they had the dog decoys and a yeti ice chest that was strapped in the boat. Just read that in the last hour the OHP has brought in Lowrance with their boat that has the new 3D sonar to help them in the search. |

Sounds like they were wading to an area using the boat as a sled. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

Holy cow... a 10' boat! I hunt this lake frequently and know it well, especially the area they were found. I was nervous taking my 14' on it. They must have been extremely novice boaters to attempt a launch in a 10 footer in those conditions. Prayers to all affected! |
