New to the world of SD motors and was wondering if you need to do anything special to secure the engine while trailering. Do people use their old outboard transom supports or is therre a special device to secure the motor while trailering? Appreciate any advise |

i welded two tie down points on both sides of my floor where the floor meets the side of the boat and in line with where the end of the handle stays at the highest position and i just tie rope from the handle to the two tie down points and that prevents the motor from going up and down and side to side |

HoosierPintail, Welcome to the site.... GDSD - you should already have her bolted thru the transom - if not then you need to ASAP - cause the whole reason the bolts are used is to keep that bad boy on while trailering.... Secondly - it is made to take all type of abuse in the "free floating" trim position - so that is where it should be when trailering.... So in my GDSD hull the floor rope to the handle keeps her in mid trim position and the rope length is such that the handle is about 2" below the top rails of the boat, so I use a second rope from the trailer frame over the side rail - wraped once around the handle and then over the other side and down to the trailer frame on the other side - pulled TIGHT - this acts like a shock absorber for up and down movement and prevents any side to side movement as well..... With this type rigging the only stress on the transom is the weight of the GDSD - and she has no chance to swing or bang or yank on the floor tie down mount excessively.... Gone over RR tracks where the decoys dang near flew out and the motor barely wiggled.... |
