 stage 1,2,3?
i posted a while back ab buying a boat, i wound up buying my girlfriends dads boat he was letting me use. 18'x54" go devil with a 35 MBSD that had 46 hours when i pulled up in front of my house with it for $7k. good deal or bad? i think the motor is like a 07 or 06 maybe? and the boat is a 02 i think.. anyways i was wanting to buy a 45 but instead i figured i could just upgrade it with the stage(s). im no gear head and dont know a whole lot about MM. can someone please help me out with around how much it will cost for each stage? and from whom i need to order parts from.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
why do you say leave it stock and enjoy it? im trying to get as close to 45HP as possible without having to pay $7k for a new motor.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
because modded motors tend to phuck up. anything you mod you lessen the life of that motor. i have a stage 1 from EVT and have not had any problems with it except the gasket leaking. i do enjoy my modded motor though. Spend some time with the search button and in the engine and boats reveiws folders. If your boat runs fine now and is giving you everything you need as far as speed and load capability then i would leave it alone. If not you can start off small and work your way up, start with a carb/exhaust upgrade. still if not, get heads decked a lil and a lil port n polish.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
If you read the posts on here about mods everyone will tell you if you dont know that much about motors then you probably shouldnt mod your engine, but I agree with them leave it stock and enjoy it if your just using it for a hunting rig and to play in that 35mb is plenty enough

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
Get ya a Mikuni setup on the factory manifold or a reworked factory manifold and carb, a decent exhaust, mild head work, mild cam and keep the rpm under 4500 and it should last you awhile. I haven't seen/heard any heavily modified engines hit the 500hr mark as of yet, but there may be a few out there. All of this can be done through Coondik I hear.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
enjoy it! a stock 35/36 will do everything you want it to do for you and a couple friends to go shoot some ducks. there's no rule that says you have to have 45 ponies, unless you're into measuring peckers.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
A few motors blow up and everyone want to jump ship. I was one of da biggest critics against mods, but now dat I've learned a little bit I understand dat if you don't get carried away wit it and keep your RPM's set low enough these engines can handle it. I myself will be gettin sum slight mods after huntin season.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
I can see toting your dad and another friend... stock motor will do that fine. tell some of your friends to go get a boat of their own! never hurts to have another boat around as a backup, especially since you're driving a mudbuddy!

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
Just for the record, I'm pushing close to 300 hours on my engine with no problems. Half of those hours being modded. I don't baby my shit either, I'm prolly about 100 hours past my oil change too Fuke it, let it roll

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
On my second Stage 1, done by Silk at EVT, and have had no problems with either. As far as price goes, plan on around 2K with headwork, Mikuni, and Stainless exhaust. Stage 1 mods seem to be pretty safe IMHO.

 Re: stage 1,2,3?
I got somthign for you to put in your pipe and smoke!!!
Got my new 36 marine powerhead on myt rig yesterday. It runs 27.3 in deep water with me 12 ghg mallets, 6 ghg canadas, 60 lb dog, 10 gl gas, and my front box full of crap.
Same load with me stage 2 I got 29.....
with that said i have a stock prop on now and with the stage 2 i had a 12x14 hokins.
After seeing the numbers im pretty sure i had a screwed up motor from EVT since it broke 10+ case bolts, lost a cam in 2 hrs and cracked my case in less than 10.
The stage 2 had speed on a small boat 1848 (34 mph) but a stage 1 can do that on this size boat.
when i sell my rig i will probably have mikuni and exhaust on my twins because I just dont like the stock carb response.
mods are fun, but keep you RPM down.
