Took my 2 year old on a ride for the first time yesterday and he had a blast!!! He cried for about an hour after we got off the lake saying he wanted to go on another boat ride and was asking to go on a ride again this morning. With that being said and seeing how much he enjoyed it I was trying to find a way to safely secure him to a seat so we could go without the assistance of another person to hold him. I have seen the Searock swings but those are for boats with T-tops and hes to big anyways. Through all my searching the internet I have yet to find any type of childrens boat seat with a seatbelt or harness. Does anyone know of any seats like this or am I just going to have to fabricate something until I can trust him to sit by himself? |

I think its a bad idea to use any kind of restraint. What happens if the boat flips or sinks? |

I understand where you are coming from but this would be more of a training tool than anything. I'm not dumb enough to haul ass or do something stupid that would put him in danger. I was just thinking of sitting him in it and idling around so he gets accustomed to sitting in a seat by himself. No speed or anything and only type of restraint would be just a cheap lap belt |

Get a cooler, put a bunch of life jackets in it so it will float. then hand cuff him to the handles on both sides. If he flies out at least he will be cuffed to something that floats and you can go snag him real quick. My dad used to hand cuff me in the back of the truck when we would go to town, worked like a champ. |

My daughter has always ridden in a small folding chair. She sits across from me in the back of the boat and doesn't get up unless I tell her it's ok. I've been taking her without anyone else to help since she was about 18mo, and she's about to turn 4. My younger daughter is about 18mo now and this spring she is going with us more and more. She's using the same chair her sister started with and I got big sister the next size up. It's worked out great. The chairs are short and their feet can touch the floor, goes a long way to making them feel more stable. I remember always riding on the front deck or in the floor when I was little. But then again, when I was little, car seats weren't mandatory and we rode in the back of dads single cab truck every chance we got. Different times. |

My buddy just puts his toddler in a regular boat seat and bungees her in so she doesn't fall out of the seat when she goes to sleep ![]() Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

If I know I'm gonna do a lot of riding I toss this in for my 4yo. The older 2 sit on a cooler. The seats comfortable and he has no issues staying put. The big thing with the small kids is keeping their Center of gravity below the gunnel. I'll also put my tackle box against the rear deckover if we're fishing. He's honestly pretty boat savy now, the chair really helped from that 2 years to now period. I would never attach my child, dog ect to something other than a flotation device. Strap a chair down ect.. but I'd never have anything attached to my child. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

I agree on not strapping them in the boat... I made my kids sit in the bottom of the boat when they were little. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

Its a wonder I made it thru child hood!! riding in the back of a single cab truck, learning to water ski at 5 yrs old wearing a ski "belt", jumping stairs, ramps, and what ever looked jumpable on a bicycle without a helmet, riding my 1st bucking milk cow by age 6, last but not least, riding in the front deck seat of daddys bass/ski boat. All that being said, the kids(step and mine) life jackets on and sitting somewhere low to help prevent them being thrown out!!! BTW after they turn into monsters(those damn teen years) sometimes wish they would have jumped out!!! ![]() |
