Help me match a boat to my motor!
I've had a 2012 gtr 23hp (short transom) for about a year and a half now on a 1648 flat bottom riveted jon. It does alright but I just don't feel that I am getting the most out of the motor.
If you guys were going to match a hull to get the most performance out of this motor...what would it be?
I am not looking to be told to get a different motor or a completely different setup. Someday down the road I hope to get a brand new rig but it is just not in the wallet right now.
Anything that I could do to my motor...I would be willing to listen to as well.
But mainly am looking to figure out what hull will pair best with this motor for hauling a decent load.
Thanks in advance!

First off, its a small block. How much do you expect out of that motor?
You can do mods to the motor, but from what I can tell, Jay with instigator boats makes a hell of a boat for small block motors. 16x46 or something like that. I'd go 17x44 or 17x46 too.

Not looking for a whole lot. Right now I can get it 18 mph with 2 people and a decent hunting load. I was hoping with the right boat I could bump 23-24??

What kinda rpm's you turning? Is your prop worn? Hooks in the bottom of the boat?

I would say about 3700-3800 rpm...does that sound right? And I would say the prop is on the worn side. Could probably use a new one. Bottom of the boat has a few hooks.

Lol I kind of figured the few things I could do to the motor. I was just looking for suggestions on a boat to best fit the motor.

It really depends on what you are wanting to spend. The sizes I listed earlier should be the best sizes to go with. I had a 16x46 and a 16x48 with a modded prodrive and it ran 31-32 mph empty. But that was with a big block.
