Post New... Is GTR 35 too heavy for 1648
Hello, Im new to the mudmotors. I just got a GTR35. I want a 1648 Grizzly Tracker. Will this boat be too small for the motor. I need it to go fast but enough transom to take on rough water while fishing. Will it work?? Would a 1754 be better or too slow??

16 x 48 is a great solo or light load hull size with a 35...

18 x 48 or 16 x 60 will give the same type performance
with a heavier 2 or 3 man load....

Most guys with a 16 x 48 - myself included - would likely
wish they had a bit bigger rig for hunting loads in shallow water...

Yes - it will be about as fast lightly loaded - but a bit faster with
a comparable 2 or 3 man load - and will work well shallow too...

See WestEndAngler's GTR and 1860 revue --- stock my GDSD 1648 is
maybe 0.5 to 1 mph faster than his stock GTR - solo - but - under a 3 man
load his rig will perform far better and would easily be 2 mph faster - due
to the larger hull size...

You will like the extra room fishing too...

B U T --- You want a true mudmotor hull - not the ribbed hull - the
mudmotor hull will last longer and perform far better.....

Are you runnin stumps or mud? Isn't that boat your lookin at ribbed? I would look into a smooth bottom and heavier hull. Also lengthways support bracing rather than horizontal like the tracker. I've got a legendcraft with the horizontal bracing that is hooked all to shit, and a prodrive with the lengthways run under same conditions with hardly a dent. I would def look into a boat built for a surface drive motor if you have not purchased a boat yet. And as giga mentioned the bigger boat is gonna run better with a hunting load. Both of ours are 16 and get bogged down once you get three people and a load in em. Two people run great though.

I believe the grizzly now has longitudinal bracing if I read the specs right. May want to ask someone at Bass Pro if I am correct.

I've had a Grizzly 1754 already and it was a piece of junk. I only had it for 2 years and it was falling apart and had to get cracks rewelded numerous times. I different have a mudmotor on it but I would be willing to bet that they would do the same thing with a mudmotor that mine did with the regular outboard. The metal is just too thin to take any kind of beating. I would definitely suggest looking at a better built stronger boat no matter what size you decide to go with.
