Post subject:  Boat Spotlights/Headlights

I'm looking for a spotlight rig for the front of my boat. I've got a handheld q-beam, but I need something permanent thats pointing straight ahead just to watch for stumps and stuff in the areas I hunt. Also would be good for frogging for the person hanging off the front.

I've looked at GatorTrax setup, looks pretty good. Anyone with any experience that can tell me if those lights are pretty bright?

Also considering rigging up something from scratch so anyone with pictures or advice let me know.

Thanks

Had the Gatortrax kit on my PD boat and liked it. The lights arent the brightest but if you "know" where you are going and just running them for extra caution they will work. Now if you are using them soley to find something, you will probably want something more.

Personally I believe the hard hat lights are the way to go. I was going to do the bow light thing but you can see so much more with the hard hat light since it shine where you look. As far as the frogging, its the same as the driving plus you need to be able to shine it on them anyways not in the air. I have a 2 mill cp handheld is we need to get out the boat.

I hear ya with the hardhat light, those things work great. I've got a 17 foot boat with a 60 inch bottom and since there's usually a few people in the boat (usually all standing up near center console) I need some lights out in front of the boat. Headlight ends up getting reflected by everything/everyone.

As far as looking for spots, etc., I'm good to go with the headlight and the q-beam, I just need something shining off the front so I can watch for debris.

Academy sells weather resistance headlights, 2 for like 35$. I'm thinking about buying those and building an aluminum frame similar to gatortrax...

I have the GoDevil light box on a removable mount on my bow...

A metal box about 8 x 12 x 4 with 2 lights a flood and a spot....

Box blocks any back glare as well as glare from nav light - the two lights work well together... Cost about 145...

But you could likely build one for half that...

Got 2 6inch KC daylighters and a homemade bracket they are very bright and work great. I do keep a q-beam in the back of the boat for looking side to side.

I use the golight styker as well. Put a trolling motor plug on it and made a removable bracket to take it off during fishing season.

I use a HH light for panning side to side as well.

I got a hard hat light and have no complaints. I would also like to have a setup in the font aswell. As for all of the lights posted i really like the Godevil setup. It looks like those are insustrial lights that are used on older tractors and combines. I really like havein may accessories removeable for fishing. But all in all the HH light is simply hard to beat. I have mine wired into a twist lock extension cord from my battery.

I hunt the river and wallace mostly. Don't guess I have seen your rig, don't remember seeing a center console. We need to run sometime, I'm over in Bossier.

I put 2 of the HH lights on the front of mine. Run a seperate marine batt, but I don't get the full wattage on the double as I do on my Hardhat single. But they do put out a good amount of light. NAPA auto parts has the lights and the rubber housings with hardware attachments

Post subject:  Re: Boat Spotlights/Headlights

I have owned a couple of Gator Trax light kits. They have 55w bulbs in them but I have replaced those with 100w bulbs from the auto parts store and these have been bright enough. Have also owned a Mudbuddy light kit...twin 130 watters...nice.

On the new Phowler I am going to go with a Go Light so I will be able to move the beam by remote control.

Got a go light for the boat and truck............comes off in about 1 minute and on the boat without a problem.

get an extra remote or the permanent mount for the boat..........DONT ASK!!!!!!!

I don't use mine on the boat much cuz i run open water, but use it to kill hogs and at the ramp........

I Have The GatorTrax setup...I like it...its all i need cause my waterways are open and know them like back of my hand...but you can get the kit an just upgrade to K.C. Flood lights just thinking outside of the box...the kit comes in handy for me being, able to take it off in seconds for fishing, trailoring, froggin, ect. and when it gets dark i jus take it out of my gun box install in seconds when needed...

I didnt pay that much musta gone up or I got heck of a deal when i posted the link i didnt even pay attention to the price but dont really matter i already got one

As far as the candle power not gonna argue with you on that b/c I dont know shit about candle power and electricity but I do know an HID bulb is ALOT brighter then a regular light like they put in the regular strykers

but yea like you said either way they are nice to have

except in fog...NOTHING works in fog so better know exactly where you're going on gps or have another route to stay clear of stumps and stuff

Post subject:  Re: Boat Spotlights/Headlights
