im lookin to buy a new motor but im stuck on wt to get i have a gd longtail that ive had for years and i know its time for an upgrade im lookin for some opions on them im lookin for the one with the most power and speed i like the prodrives cause of the reverse they dont look like they have the power like a gatortail really reverse isnt a big i have a longtail i would like to know how strong the gatortail reverse actually is

Demo's are free and you can demo both in the same day if you can make it down to Loreauville, LA. Everyone has their own opinion on which one is best. Demo as much as you can these as these things arent cheap. Btw, I like PD but I was impressed at how well the GT pulled in reverse when I demo'd them.

gtr offers instant reverse similar to an outboard. pd offers reverse but u have to wait for the entire lower end to swing around first before you can back up. if you are in junky water you may have to trim the pd up out of the junk for it to swing around for reverse.

my last post wasnt ment to put down pd. only offering food for thought. didnt intend to stir.

the guy i camp next to during duck season has a pd. he told me that the foot spinning around for reverse would catch on stuff and he would have to raise the foot up to clear what ever it would hang on to get it in position for reverse. on the other hand he also said that he really liked the full power reverse because he could trim the motor up forcing the prop wash under the boat lifting it up, off of what he is stuck on. he said "doing the hellicopter" has gotten him out of several sticky stiuations.

personally i havent done a side by side comparison between the gtr and pd. according to what i have read here on mmt, although gtr has good power in reverse the pd's power is better.

however, instant reverse is really nice around the dock, dealing with decoys, and in really tight timber where going on the wrong side of a tree will leave you with only a few seconds to stop the boat before hitting another tree or putting the guy in the front of the boat in the buck brush. it may not seem like much but for some of us it makes the difference.

i could tell u all day that prodrive is easier to drive, goes thru floton better, has a unmatched reverse, and swings a bigger prop with more reduction, but i won't, cause sum other jo-bubba with a gtr will have the same opinion of his rig, even though it will be wrong. lol

I could SHOW u all day that Gator Tail is easier to drive, goes thru floton vegetation and mud better, has a unmatched/instant reverse, and swings a smaller prop than pro-drive that creates less drag which results in better top end speed than pro-drive but i won't, cause sum other jo-bubba with a ratchet reverse prodrive will have the same opinion of his rig, even though it will be wrong.

Come on Tin can Terry you know that the PD is far superior to the GTR in every aspect.The only reason that i would own one would be to put on a dedicated fishing boat with a center console just so I wouldn't have to deal with a waterpump.

i will say though, i been around both prodrives and gatortails long before u knew what either one was, and i've yet to see a prodrive be outperformed by a gatortail in really rough terrain.
