 What do I need
I Don't know much about mud motors but I know I got to get one. I duck hunt the marsh and run trot lines in a river full of logs and stumps. That river has two 25hp out boards of mine in the bottom of it. I like to run fast and don't want to be slowed down due to shallow water and obstacles just under the water. I also hunt in very cold conditions with ice and where most remote steers freeze up. I have a 1650 aluminum triton with a 20in transom that is set up for tiller steer. I know the members of mmt can help me out. Thanks

 Re: What do I need
If you plan on beating the crap out of your motor i would suggest the GD because of its simplicity, less parts to break on it and it will still run with the other motors

 Re: What do I need
ProDrive is my brand of choice... because it is by far the easiest to drive, and the weighted back design holds the motor down in the water when things get thick. Also, I think full power reverse is the best option for me, by far.
That being said, if I did alot of running lines, I'd readily sacrifice my PD for a Gatortail with instant reverse, even if it takes more effort to drive.
As far as boats are concerned, sounds like you beat your equipment up pretty good. Why not sell your outboard rig as a complete rig and get prime rates for it? A boat like what you have will work with a mud motor, but not as well as a mudboat. And you're just going to end up tearing the boat up, and loosing money when you try to sell it. Buy a good, solid .125 longitude braced hull from the get-go, and don't worry about tearing it up every time you smack a log.
