Post Advice needed...
I'm just a Minnesota boy, that knows nothing of the custom build or mud rig world....

I do have a delemmia. I'm fixin to trade/sell my fishing boat setup and upgrade to a quality all round boat for both hunting anf fishing. I fish both lakes and rivers up here with some backwater work. I avidly hunt ducks and geese too in the mississippi backwaters with mud, stumps, with a rock here and there....

I'm tired of doing the boat flip flop as well as tired of used a deep V with a long shaft tiller for duck hunting. My body can't handle all that work; after the beating it took in the military.

I'm looking to upgrade to an 18' mod V or flat bottom with a pointed nose style thats 54 or 60 inchs wide with some deeper sides like 26 inches or so. To safely haul my duck hunting gear around as well as a few guys.... I'd probably run a larger mud motor on it to have the power and speed if need be.

For about 16k you could get the boat you described brand new. Plus you can have them set it up the way you want. But the more you add the more it's gonna cost ya. You could have a boat custom built and find a used motor. That would keep you around 10k. You can find the godevils cheaper most of the time because of their simplicity but if u can afford it and have a bit of mechanical ability I would definately spring for the gatortail or pd. Reverse is a nice convenience and works well.

I'm not sure what part of MN you are from, but there is a Godevil dealer in Winona. Last time I went by a couple weeks ago he had some 54" and 60" wide boats there that were also tall transom/tall sides.

There is also Phowler boats in Clinton Iowa. I don't know what they have now, but earlier in the summer they had some 2008 and 2009 boats with real good prices on them. Some of them would probably fit exactly what you are looking for since you want the taller sides. I almost went with them but didn't want the tall sides for my uses.

With both of those cases, you'll be saving yourself a lot of cash by not having to ship something up from the south and both come with flotation if you're wanting that.

Lots of good stuff from Uncle J on here too and I'm not trying to cut him out of a deal. Just giving you some options that might be closer for ya. I know what it's like looking for a true mudboat in MN-not easy.
