 tabs/wedges
how many of you guys have had to weld tabs/wedges under the bottom on the back of your rigs to keep them from porpoising?? and what did you use just a torque tab for a outboard cut in half ? thanks

 Re: tabs/wedges
Did you try moving some of your weight up forward towards the bow first?

 Re: tabs/wedges
Then yes I would start by having a torque tab welded to each side of the boat at the transom. That should solve your problem.

 Re: tabs/wedges
I had them put on my gd 16x44 and it totally solved the problem. It also helped raise the back end of the boat when running at full speed.
I believe Bayouboy also has them on his boat. It was from his post/report that I decided to go with them.

 Re: tabs/wedges
I know i don't have reverse but wouldn't they just dig into the mud too much with a GTR when in reverse?

 Re: tabs/wedges
I don't have reverse either. But the wedges are small and I cannot tell the difference when poling backwards in the mud.

 Re: tabs/wedges
I've got wedges on mine.. Had a set made and installed that were oversized then took the grinder to them to fine tune..

 Re: tabs/wedges
I had some on a godevil boat that worked like a champ. a little less than 1/2" tall, I made them out of angle. put them on with epoxy and try them out before you weld them on...

 Re: tabs/wedges
I made some for a friend out of aluminum angle and while I was waiting for him to come get them I put them on a 16x48 that I had. I really did not think that I needed them it would only porpoise when the boat was completely empty with me standing as far back as I could.
When I took it for a test run with a buddy of mine we got the best speeds that the hull had ever produced and it never bounced at all even with one man at a time. We even stood together as far back as we could and still could not get it to porpoise. The wedges never effected the performance while operating in reverse.

 Re: tabs/wedges
My 1644 doesn't porpoise but the nose rides high in the water. I always thought if I could bring the nose down just a little I would get a better ride.

 Re: tabs/wedges
I think they were about 3" wide and 4.5" long, can't remember for sure. Ground them down to fine tune, with my normal running load distribution. Made one heck of a difference all around. First tried just welded beads on each corner, which does work, but killed my holeshot and top end. The wedges were one of the "little things" that helped run bumpin 40mph here and there.

 Re: tabs/wedges
Wedges are not da solution to every boat. Rick welded two 3" beads on da bottom of mine at da back and it solved my problem.
