If you paint with Alum. Boat Green.. (Same color is my avitor picture)
You dont need primer. The paint is a primer. All you need is White Vinegar or Alum. Bright.

Step 1 : Bring Boat to Carwash, and wash with Degreaser.
Step 2 : Use a Weed Sprayer, and spray down boat with Alum. Bright. This etches the Alum. *Same thing as blasting, but it does not hurt the surface.
Step 3 : Let the Alum. Bright sit on the boat for approx. 15 minutes.
Step 4 : Spray down with hose pipe
Step 5 : Let boat dry
Step 6 : Roll Durelux paint on with paint roller.

There you go.. Ya boat painted for under $100.00

Uncle J

I use Sherwin-Williams KEM-400, which is the original paint used by many boat manufacturers. You get it from a S-W Chemical Coatings store, which is not your neighborhood Sherwin location.

If you look up KEM-400 on the internet it will say it is a gloss paint, but the chemical coatings stores can flat it down to a 0-5 degree sheen which is, for all purposes, flat.

This paint wears like iron when properly applied.

Prep the boat as mentioned above. I used parker's duckboat paint. reasonable price and has been very durable on my boat
