Post bar on the pro drive frame
Is there any reason for this bar on the frame being longer than the one next to it? I know on my last PD that long bar had a piece of chain welded to it but this one doesnt. Just wondering if there is any reason for it being tall and when it gets bent from hitting too many stumps it then begins to rub against the motor. can i just cut that mofo off about the same height as the other?

someone enlighten me please.
i know the bar is there as a stop. that is why its bent up so bad. my question is does it need to be that high? because it rubs against the motor. and i didnt say i was going to cut it all the way off, i said i would cut it the same height as the other. might want to read the question correctly before smarting off. just a thought

I bent mine several times and eventually it did the same problem Owen is having with it making contact on the engine block. I bent mine back with a cheater pipe which was not easy until it quit contacting the engine block.

I do not know what the repurcussions of cutting it the same height as the other would be. I am curious as to why PD has designed one longer than the other.

The bar is removable/replaceable, but others have posted in previous threads that either they couldn't beat the bar out, or it was extremely difficult.

Owen, why not call PD and ask them the best course of action? I am certain they deal with this all the time.

If you are running your motor in certain shallow water areas with alot of solid debris you will not be able to prevent the kickback bar from being bent. It's sole purpose is to get the shit knocked out of it. Actually, that can happen in deep water as well. It just depends what is underneath you cannot see. The time I bent mine to where it was rubbing on the engine block; I hit something so hard it was either a concrete or timber piling at WFO. Motor came up hard and gov. kicked out and all. I shut down and inspected everything and caught my wits, and picked up a couple of filling out my teeth.

If you cannot bend it with a cheater, cut it down or knock it out and replace it. Come to think of it I will cut mine down, the higher side is a safety hazard IMO because if it contacts the engine block it can cause steering problems, and to me that's an issue.

if you try to bend it straight with a cheater bar, get your wife to sit on the cavitation plate to hold the motor down. I have a funny story about a prodrive, and ex-girlfriend, and a cheater pipe.

I'm not cutting bar all the way off, just down to the same size as the one next to it. How is this sailing over peoples heads?

the way I see it, those fellers at ProDrive are pretty damned smart. if they made it that way, they made it that way for a reason.

Ummm, anyone ever thought of loosening the set screw and rotating the bar 180 degrees where it's bent towards the front of the boat rather than getting a hernia using a cheater bar?
