 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
Not sure about skiffs but the U.S.C.G has been down here all day inspecting shrimp boats and putting all the local shrimp boats to work for $3000 a day with all expenses paid!

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
British Petroleum has set up a program for boat owners to help respond to the oil sheen that is headed for the Gulf Coast after a rig explosion last week. Those interested in the "Vessel of Opportunity" program should contact Vince Mitchell at (425) 745-8017 or by e-mail at vince.mitchell@lamor.com. Vessel owners will need to provide details about their vessel, such as the boat's name, owner, horsepower, length, draft, etc. BP gave no specifications for the size of the boat needed,n or what the work would entail.

They said that they will need some shallow draft and some airboats along with large vessels!

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
They had the phone numbers on the news this morning looking for local fisherman wanting to put their boats to work. It was on two differant networks.
I'm going to meet with some local wetlands experts after lunch to see what they came up with out the meetings today.

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
Coast Guard is about 10 doors down from me right now at a local shrimpers house. They have been there all morning "certifying" the locals to use their shrimp boats to pull spill booms around.

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
I love my internal combustion engine's, and Im not tring to say anything bad... But this is going to be a big fuc1<ing mess... And impact alot of folks worldwide, but nothing like its going to impact the ones along the LA, MS and TX Gulf Coast.... Maybe BP will get this crap cleaned up before it impacts The Gulf Coastline and all the life it sustains (off shore and inland).. But for 3G a day I got a boat they can use.. (Hiring deckhands, PM applications or resumes if interested)
That is all carry on....

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
Them guys out there in the gulf are working there arses off to get this cleaned up before it hits the coast lines. My dad is working overtime dispatching and scheduling clean up crews to assist other boats already out there working from fouchon LA. Trust me guys they are not playing around with this they are working day and night to get this issue resolved but as long as that well flows its going to be hard to keep up with for anyone that is working on it. This is going to be a long process and its not going to be easy!

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
I called a Houston number telling them I had a boat built to run in the marsh and I was willing to hire it out. They took my information and told me someone would get back to me soon,
30 mins later I recieved an email telling me thank you for offering to volunteer your boat and time, I responded that the phone call was not an offer to volunteer but to provide services for pay. I havent heard back yet,

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
there is much confusion on this subject, volunteers dont get paid, many people overlooked the volunteer part, too many dollar signs in their eyes i guess.i know of a few boats that got hired, all steel hulls, didn't hear of any of them gettin paid yet though. i know someone who had two boats "on the job" for three or four days, these were small supply boats.the boat owner was told that bp was not ready to recieve invoices yet when he tried to get paid.he told them to let him know when they were ready and took his boats off the job. i also know a few guys that went get "certified" and went to work for some spill clean-up companies like oil-mop.from what i'm hearin',the clean-up companies pretty much got it sewed up,but they are hirin crews.prolly 10 or 25 bucks an hr(venice area) i hope i'm rite but i dont think this shit should make it to this side(west side)of the river. i hope i'm wrong on this one but i believe that by the time its over its gonna be comparable to valdez. what ever amount of oil they are admitting to,you can safely multiply it x5. JUST MY HONEST OPINION.

 Re: OIL SPILL CLEANUP JOBS....
Over here you have to register and then they would call you and you have to take a short course. They are paying 45 bucks an hour for capt and 30 bucks for deckhands.450 a day for the boat. This is what I have been told,I did not go to this meeting.
They were taking all size vessels. 20' and under would be used to move booms. 30' and up would haul booms and supplies.20-30' do what ever.
There was a link to it on the St. Bernard parish website.
