So my 23 GDLT got rear-ended recently, bent the shaft slightly, skeg, and supports and also the powerhead keeps backfiring under load. Long story short, I think the thing is totaled and the bitch that hit me's insurance will be paying me market value for the motor. So I'm thinking the 23 GTR would be great on the back of my boat. I haven't test driven one yet but i've seen em and they look great. I've heard great things about the motors and the customer service. Also, I dont plan on ripping through mud just for fun, more like an "as needed" kinda deal. I want a mud motor for cutting through heavy vegetation and running really skinny and possibly muddy when hunting ducks in the salt marsh. I really like the instant reverse option. I see a lot of people on there have the 23 or 35 GTR and I wanted to know y'alls opinion before I go ahead and pull the trigger. Do these things have any regular problems with the gearbox or lower? Maintenance looks pretty easy on them. Thanks!

Have you ever bought sumthin and after da new wares off you start gettin dat buyers remorse feelin.....................................

Well you ain't gonna feel dat way wit da GTR. You just gonna love it more every day dat passes. Only thing dat I would recomend is if your boat is big enough get da 35 HP.

Do it you wont regret it. Be sure and talk to the guys at Gatortail and they can answer your questions and get you set up right. But from going from a LT to a GTR will be a move you wont look back on from what you say you are looking for and how you use your boat.

go get a free demo drive from whatever dealer u talk to. they might even slap one on ur boat so u can see exactly what u are getting.

me personally, i'd get a prodrive, but the gatortail is a great unit.

good luck with whatever u choose!!!!

Thanks for the advice! I didn't wanna go with Prodrive b/c if i'm gonna have reverse, it has to be instant. I'd be using it to get around docks and pilings, on and off the trailer, ect, not really to use in the mud. I actually wasn't planning on going through a dealer as I live in Florida and there ain't any near here. I was gonna order it direct from GT and have it shipped to my boat manufacturer in Orlando, Fl .... here's my boat so y'all can give me more opinions!

The raised casting platform and trolling motor are all removable for duck hunting, I kept the cockpit open for maximum fishing/gear space and will probably be using 5 gal buckets with spin lids for hunting, to keep a low profile and have 360 degree view. When fishing with two, the passenger sits on the deck with their legs in the cockpit while underway.

How long is your boat and what is your transom hieght and angle?

16ft boat, 15" cutaway transom, not sure of the angle. I really can't afford a 35 GTR but I was fine and happy with the 23LT and I believe the SD will be a little faster, so I think I'll survive with a 23 vs a 35. To me, spending the extra 1500 isn't worth the two or three extra minutes underway b/c I almost never run more than 10 miles in one direction

Almost all of my problems were briggs related, no real lower unit trouble.

I know the price is alot to get over as far as 23 vs 35 but the speed is not everything its the load carrying ability and the power to get you out of a bind that the 35 has over the 23 that makes the differance.

if you can, try test driving first. that hull is very different than most MM hulls and I would be curious to see how the GT would perform on that hull. hull designs can be a deal breaker sometimes no matter how great the motor is. i test drove a 23 GTR on my GD hull and it performed horribly. before you make a big purchase like this, check out all your options before going all out. hell, the GT might perform great but it's a risk. if you talk to kyle and the guys over there they might know someone that has a set up like that. they are stand up fellas and will tell you if it will work or not.
