Post duals vs mods.
If I knew then what I know now ,I would have gotten twin 23 from go-devil for a little over 8k. I paid 5600 for 35hp ,put 3000 in mods it ran 1 hour in the drive way and a hour on the water when cam and came apart. I replaced the cam for another $275.00. Ran 10 hours before hidden damage from first failure shut me down on the 22 of Dec.
I lost the best of the season. $900 dollars later ( two over sized piston and new rods , boring and labor to long block it) I am now back up and running. I haven't had time to put it on the water yet, it sounds strong and runs smooth.

With duals you get more prop surface working for you, that is what you need to run a load. Geared right you don't need to turn 4500 or 5000 rpm
to run a load at 30 mph with stock motors and factory warranty.

You won't wear a motor out nearly has fast, if one motor fails you still have one to get you home.

Stage one kits would be a nice , but not need.

If you care about speed at all, the twin 23's would still be slower from what I understand.

Talked to Lance Coco about the twin 35 rig he was running one day, said he sees 33 solo in it, but 30 with 8 people in it. I get 33 out of mine, but loaded down is where the advantage kicks in IMO. I was only getting 23 out of my 23

Twins just seems like a bunch of weight and not to mention oil changes and props and etc on 2 engines. I will go with one 35 on my next rig. 8-)

White you are right, if all you care about is speed a single 35 on a light boat is the way to go, but you can't have a top speed of 40 running light and carry a 5 man load and still get 35. Its all about gearing , prop surface , pitch . With my 35 stage 3 on a 20x60 with a hard blind
I can run 28mph with just me my dog and 5 dozen decoys, but every additional 200 lb man cost about 1.5 mph. Running light with out the blind
at 4750 rpm I am running 30. With 3 additional me I am still able to run 4750 but due prop slippage I am down under 27. That was with a some what sick stage 3 motor.

Warren rode in my boat , he said dual 23's would get me 28 but I could put 5 men in and do 27. You double the hp but more importantly you get 2.5 x the torque. I think it you have 2x the prop surface area splitting the work load and less slippage to move the load. Thats with stock v running at 3800 rpm. if you put a rev limiter in place of the Governor and a good exh
you could run 4200 rpm. They have been build 23's up a lot longer than the 35's. At 4200 you won't wear out those motors and still run 30 + with a heavy load (just a guess)

I wouldnt have thought you could get 28 out of twin 23's!! I would have though maybe 25, but 23.5-24 loaded down.

I was happy to get 32.3 out my 35 with me and the dog, and 31.5 with the ole lady, both of her kids, and a 120 qt ice chest.

My stock 35 on the 20x60 ran 25 with me and Warren.
The dual 23 would be 46 hp and a lot more torque and more prop surface area working to move the load. I have not had a test drive yet but I know I can trust Warren to tell me straight. I don't know what it weighs, but they are heavy. If you need a work horse of a rig duals make sense.
From the video's I have seen two props get a heavy load moving in the mud fast.
