Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
What are the differences other than the mini weighing 55lbs lighter and costing 150$ less? I would like to here any experiences with either motor. Thanks

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
U should look at getting a 35. I like my 23 better in the timber but the 35 does better in the mud and veggies and the extra mph is really nice.

If it's your first mm go with a used LT (price) somewhere around a 23hp. And see how that works for a year or so then work your way up. Learn all the mechanics and tricks (because somethings do and will break) and then invest in a new shorty. Just my opinion.

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
That's some pretty good advise there, especially if your gonna put it on a non-mudmotor hull. The longtail is tough as nails, low maintenance, and dependable. Cheaper to buy too on a budget.

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
Long runs with a LT can get old quick. I'll tell you this, I've had mb and gd motors, LT's and shorties, both provide pretty good help when it come to customer service. I run a MB now because I found it for a steal. GD's motors are a little heavy, but built like tanks. If you are planning on really abusing and trying to get back in really bad shit go with a GD (and get the pull start either way). I personally run the TX coast south of Houston so I don't see much timber more mud and veggies so my set up now is perfect. There all good motors if you maintain them.

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
Thanks for all of the advice guy's I'm headed to Monroe, LA to pick up a GD 23 SD tuesday. Now I need to find a boat to put it on... What do yall think as far as a boat for this motor would work. I have a 14' duracraft that I could beef up the transome too. I currently run my ex girlfriends fathers 25 horse on this boat He told me I could keep the motor as long as when I sell the boat I'd give it back, but that was when I was still dating his daughter... 3 years ago ... I'm thinking that I might should get that back to him option 2 is to look for a good deal for a jon "posibly 16 foot or so" on craigslist, beef up the transome and hope it will last a couple of seasons until I get out of college. Oh and keep the 25 hourse motor on the back of my 14 footer.

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
I would try to go with a 16' and at least 48" wide.

Re: Mini HD 23 Vs GD23 SD
Good choice on the motor, are you getting the galv. frame and pull start? If your planning on upgrading in the future the galv. frame motors are ALOT easier to sell and the pull start is worth its weight in gold trust me.
