 Backfiring......
Got my motor back together and noticed it is hard to start. It turns over and over and over, I give it a little gas, it backfires, then starts right up. Or intead of giving it gas, I choke it. Backfires and starts right up.
It does this with a .165, 167.5, and 170 main jet. I also checked the air gap on the coils and it is good. I'm gonna check the timing key, but I suspect it is fine.
Any suggestions?????

It's wierd..... I trimmed the motor up against the reverse block with the .165 jet in and now it starts right up every time....

 Re: Backfiring......
Its not the main jet that is causing you issues, Is this the first tim you put a Mikuni carb on the motor, You could have to large of a idle jet.

 Re: Backfiring......
I've had the carb on there. I haven't changed out the idle jet.

 Re: Backfiring......
I have a 27 PD I bought a couple of years ago that did the exact same thing. Choke it, it would backfire and start right up and run. Had to change the coils. they were rusted up and weak. Runs great now.
