 40HP GTR Won’t Idle
Well the motor has been running great for 52 hours. I removed the bolt holding the throttle arm on to try and find a way to take some of the play out (gator tail should of put a bushing here). I reinstalled the bolt after taking a look at it and cranked it up and it ran and idled fine. Then I drove 150 miles down the road on a beautiful day and go to crank it up again and it wouldn’t start. Squeezing the throttle cable just slightly will get the motor to catch and run. Once running it runs great but as soon as you let go of the handle it dies. I know there are three components that control idle and Gatortail said I needed to get the motor reprogrammed but it just seems odd that this happened all of a sudden and makes me wonder if something else is going on. Any thoughts?

Mine does that too every so often. When you turn the fuel pump on by turning your key, let it sit for 5 to 10 seconds and then crank it. That helps. If not, just hold the lever a bit to give it gas and go run it. After running it for a while and letting it warm up, it gets right. Nothing to worry about imo

 Re: 40HP GTR Won’t Idle
An efi shouldn't require squeezing the throttle, and shouldn't die after it's been running a while. It should crank on it's own after the fuel pump primes, and should come off throttle without dying, warmed up or not. Those are carb symptoms, not efi. Efi should manage that automatically. If it doesn't, it may not be something to worry about health wise of the engine, but it's not right.

 Re: 40HP GTR Won’t Idle
2019 model purchased in October. I’ve never needed to squeeze the throttle before you just twist the key and she’s running. Ran it for about an hour today so it got nice and warm and it never wanted to idle.

Does the throttle cable have a free play adjustment on it? That may be just a carb thing to I dunno. Following this post. Let us know what you figure out. I get my new 40 mounted this weekend. One of the first things is gonna be replacing the throttle lever wondering if its that easy to knock outta wack

 Re: 40HP GTR Won’t Idle
Well took the boat by WC Custom Boats in Tyler and hooked a computer up to it. Made a few adjustments and it’s running great now. It was the weirdest thing but nothing seems to be wrong with it just out of adjustment.ill let y’all know if anything changes.

 Re: 40HP GTR Won’t Idle
I'm thinking the cable had a tiny bit of tension on it and was set by that, then you released it. Then the idle adjustment was out. Idle screw and ecu volts need to be adjusted together after that.
