Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
Just because when its 100 degrees the thinner oil starts to pour out of my crank case. And rotella is cheaper and has more zinc. Mobil 1 is awesome oil but its just too expensive for me to let it run out if the gasket. And no, just regular rotella.

Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
So you switch to a 20w-50 rotella? Why not just use a 20w-50 synthetic?

Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
Rotella is the best oil for these flat tappet cave man engines. They're not like your newer truck, you're wasting money on everything else. Older engines with the same style cams like the old Muscle cars that still run today cannot run the newer oils, they've switch to the higher zinc diesel oils.

Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
Sbc chevy cam and a 35 briggs cam. Each with a bad lobe. Just a nice synthetic is not enough. The cam has to have lots of zink to live. API rating "SN"is low zink and high enough detergent to clean off any zink it used to have. In my experiance anyway

Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
The reason I use 15w-40 rotella is because of the high zinc content. I've always used it to break in new engines and ran it in them if possible. I just don't use it in the winter because its too thick for a lawn mower engine in cold weather.

Re: Yet another Briggs case gasket option
Alright, somewhere I said T6 but I use Triple T Rotella, the T6 is just their Synthetic line which would probably be good too. The Triple T however is the conventional that I know has a lot of zinc in it. You can get it in 10W-30 or 15W-40, I prefer the 15W-40. It never gets below zero where I live but it does get hot.
