if you start a 35 vanguard then disconnect the battery and it dies does that mean the alternator is bad???? we went bowfishin the other night and had a 10 mile paddle when we decided to head back!! just want to make sure if its only the battery or the alternator. THANKS |

Put a meter on the battery. 12v + equal good battery. Rev up motor and it should show around 14v or so if it's charging. Someone said you had to have battery connected for motor to run at all, don't know about that one though. |

It starts charging at ~1800-2000RPM. You need some electricity for the clutch if you have one- I expect you would need some juice to engage it. Other things would be the anti-backfire valve and oil sensor- they may need power to allow it to run, but never have tried to run it without a battery. |

Get you one of them small onboard chargers and plug in when you get home to ensure a full charge for the next trip. Then you won't have to worry about the capacitor having to work hard on the charge while running each time. |

You can take that solenoid off and plug the hole with a bolt. The MB 45's remove it. |
