IS the motor hard to start? does it take a while for it to pop off? that would be the first sign that the key is sheared,

Rumble, it's the bracket that is holding the throttle cable that is cracked. Briggs changed something in their bracket and they started cracking. Call the shop we made a fix for this last week, and we will ship you one out. ;)

The timing key is the problem behind the hard to start issue, the low rpms may be what was mentioned earlier about the cracked bracket.

From what I read, the key is supposed to be for alignment only, not intended to hold the flywheel (the bolt does that). Huh, Learn something everyday.

Lap the flywheel to the crank before you install the timing key, also stick a toothpick in the gap alongside the key if present. Once the flywheel is torqued down it isn't going anywhere without a puller.

Went to the GT sho yesterday and it ended up being the broken bracket on the throttle assembly....The guys fixed it up and it is good to go....
