I have a problem. No fuel to Carb. Checked the new fuel line to black disk fuel pump on engine block free and clear. Checked fuel line from Black disk fuel pump on engine block to carb. free and clear. No fuel line suction. So it would be my conclusion that fuel pump is out. 85 hours on engine. Is this a common problem? Should I replace the stock fuel pump or retro to an after market fuel pump mounted on the transom? Need your thoughts.

I had the diaphram on the stock fuel pump bust a couple of years ago,if I pumped the ball the motor would run for a minute and then kill.It was under warranty so it was changed out.

Stock fuel pump should do well for you- if you go with something else you will need to ensure its low pressure 1-2PSI and it shuts off with the key and kill switch. The stock mikuni mechanical one is simple and operates off the cam. Only thing to go wrong is the diaphram on it and although it doesn't happen every day, they do fail - especially with Ethanol in the mix.

As stated- see if it runs with you pumping a primer bulb to ensure you have no problems on the supply side. You can hook a longer hose off the output port of the fuel pump into a gas can and crank the engine to confirm its the pump.

Replacing it is only 2 (8mm I believe) bolts and the hose clamps. If you have the stock carb you will have to loosen the carb assembly to get the fuel pump out of the hole in the block.
