Re: IN NEED OF A MIRACLE
I had the same problem on the low end power. I tried all the jets and needles they make. I finally did away with the evt intake and got the bps adaptor and my problem was solved. As for your top end power you need to see what main jet is in the carb and what notch your carb needle is on.
With just exhaust on your engine it most likly will be a lil slugish. Your gonna need head work and maybe even a timing key. Its seems on the gator tails there is a bad bog from idle to WOT on lightly modded engines. I had this same talk with Hoyt at Gator tail about the EVT intakes. He confermed what I already thought. The engine doesnt pull in enough air at idle to WOT to accomidate the big intake. This means the air isnt moving fast enough. Im guessing to get the boat moving you have to roll the throttle slowly. I bet it bogs down getting on the trailer also.
The prodrives dont seem to have such a problem with it. It could be the gear ratio. It is lower on the prodrive so its not as hard for the engine to get the prop turning.

Re: IN NEED OF A MIRACLE
you also need to plug up the two vacum tubes on the carb. They are the two barb fittings on the outlet side of the carb. They will make it run very lean.

Re: IN NEED OF A MIRACLE
Nah.... Looked @ it will riding yesterday and whatever i did with the throttle, where the cable connects to the carb, it reacted. But anything after half throttle was pointless. I'll be on the line with hoyt, coondik & andy @ the boat doctor and i GARAUNTEE that this problem will get resolved. Im tired of messing with it and gonna let the pros get to the bottom of it

Re: IN NEED OF A MIRACLE
Take a can of starting fluid and spray around where the carb mounts to the intake and where the intake mounts to the engine. If it revs up you have a leak.

Re: IN NEED OF A MIRACLE
relax buddy, i'm sure the answer is lookin' right at u! first thing u need to look at is what you have changed from before to now. these guys have already steered you in the right direction. i have had issues with carbs not being jetted right from the factory and intakes flanges not quite mating up to the heads. although, most of this has been covered in prioir replies, here is a step by step run down on how i would ckeck it out. 1. intake: make sure flanges are mounted flush with the heads and the gaskets are somewhat crushed (be sure they are not over-tightened and have been busted). check the carb flange / adapter boot ( i usually use RTV liberally when installing the boot. once the 2 bolts have been tightened, remove any excess RTV and let it dry prioir to installing)
2. carb.: here are somethings i check out on the carb before installing. A) Main Jet / Idle Jet: remove the float bowl from the bottom of the carb to get a visual on these jets. the main jet is located pretty much dead center of the carb. and is the larger of the 2. you shouldn't have to remove the main jet to see the size. The idle jet is located right behind the main jet. use a flathead screwdriver to remove and inspect. Make sure both jets are fastened securely and reinstall float bowl. (i usually check the height of the float at this time, but we'll come back to this later). as stated before the main jet size should be no less than 155 and no greater than 165. the idle jet size should be 25.\ B) Needle Position: the needle is accessed through the top plate of the carb. It should be set in the 3rd position and fine tuning to it can be done at later time, as with the float. ** remind me to send you the HSR Manual in pdf format, this will expain a lot**
If all these things check out, then install the carb & intake. Connect all the components except for the throttle. Run / test the setup, check the choke, idle rpm's and top end rpm's. make sure there is no "booging" or flat spots throughout the rpm range
3. throttle linkage: this is pretty staright foward. connect throttle linkage, secure outer conduit and take up any cable slack by bending the tab on the carb.
