Post subject:  clutch slipping?

I just got this setup last month, I have a 1652 low jon, with a 35 hyper hunter. The jon has pods on the back.I had my 18hp hyper on itfor, a year, I didn't have this problem. When I hit the throttle it starts to take off, then it just bounces off the gov,4000 rpm, and like it just runs out of water? then as it slowly picks up speed, gets on plane, then it starts movin and works good. It doesn't seem like the clutch is slipping, but may be. Motor has about 20hrs on it. 2008 model. It seems to do this with one or 4 people in the boat. Now I know this isn't a mud motor hull, but I got to start somewhere. I run in a river with sand bottom. It seems when I hit the sand it will rip the handle right outa my hand, so I don't think the clutch is the problem? but may be? Any ideas, other than a new hull? thanks :?

More likely than not a bad clutch will be making some noise. Mine did this friday. Making a slight grinding sound as if something were rubbing when the motors running and out of gear. Plus there were metal shavings and part of a washer or rivet head stuck to the magnet along with what looks like alot of brake dust around everything. But it also did what you have described. It still engaged and would idle fine. As I increased speed it would start to slip and bog down. Go back to idle and it was fine. Peck said it probably broke a band. After engaging the clutch several times I finally got it to bite and went to full throttle back to the ramp. While running the motor on the trailer I can see that the clutch plate seems to be out of balance and does not rotate smoothly so something broke loose inside.
