Post subject:  Jon boat probs?

Im putting a bps 4000 on the back my 16ft lowe for a year then moving up to a 17ft excel next year. I was told to watch out for the motor having to much torque and wrecking the transom on the boat has any 1 heard of this and if so anyway to get around it for a season till i get my excel? thanks for the help

Dude I see a lot of people saying that a Mudmotor will wreck a riveted boat. I see it like this - my lil 16' had a 75 evinrude on it, most people's boats had 70's - 90's on 'em, and we all had jacking plates and plowed through almost the same crap we do now, so I don't think that 1/2 the horsepower will hurt it. My buddy ran a 36 PD on his 1848 riveted Polarkraft for a few years, and the boat did fine through all the mud and sandy bottoms. Logs are probably a different story, but I think a riveted will hold up fine.

Thanks for the info i know we had a 25 merc and i took out the lower unit bent the shaft and gears in a single blow on a rock and plowed through all kinds mud with it and didnt seem to have a prob but heard that got lil worried nd dont really wanna do another loan for my boat right now till the truck is paid for o well smtin happesn to the boat take the insurance money and put it towards my brand spankin new excel :D anymore info on this would be apreciated from any1 or cheap idea to beef it up so i dnt have to wrry!
