Well, I spent the night at a friends camp last night. Rained part of the night and all day. Had to get into the boat 3 times to kick the bilge pump on. Well, when I went to leave today to come home, my motor cranked up and idled fine. Wnen I tried to get up and run, the motor would sputter and almost die. Its about a 25 min run from the camp back to the launch. It never did get to where the motor would run right. After about 10 mins of idling and trying to get up and run, I was finally able to get up on step. But i was only turning about 3200 RPMs. Yesterday, before the rain she ran fine. About 4050 RPMs. Could this be caused by the rain and moisture in the air? If so, what can I do to protect the exposed air filter on my Mikuni carb setup? I know I'm not the only one to try to run after the boat has sat in the rain.

Any suggestions please??

Fabricate some sort of filter cover similar to the ones used on motorcycles.

You could make you a cover that extends over the top of the carb like gatorpoint did. I plan to add one myself. Would protect from tree limbs and a direct down pour somewhat. Other than that carry you a BBQ grill cover to put over the motor in a heavy rain. I know you couldn't do it when running but it would help when your not. One of the 60" rectangular covers fits over my PD motor and handle. For about 10-15.00 it works great. The filter probably is soaked and your sucking moisture into the carb as well as the electical could be affected.

I'm gonna try the ziplock bag thing for now when its gonna be out in the rain. But I'd love to see some pics of the cover idea.

Damn nice design. Looks good. But I'm running a Go Devil so I gotta figure out a different design.

it is very possible that your filter was wet and causing the problem. But it was more possible that you have a plug wire that is shorting out when it is wet.
