When this problem started, it would choke down while running every other time out. It would choke down, then run fine, choke down, then run fine. When i started checking for the problem, i discovered i had a bad coil. I replaced both coils, and now have good fire on both sides. ( The new coils, came with a new timing key, which i installed.) Cyl. 1 has 119 compression, Cyl 2 has 140. I've been told that as long as the difference is less than 10% i'm ok. I've gone through the Carb. it looked fine, no build up, blew out the jets, and blew carb. cleaner through all jets. I then was told to check the valves, which i did and tweeked them to .0005. ( .0004 to .0006 ) is factory specs.( the valves looked brand new.) I've also been told if the fuel pump goes it goes, and it won't run. The fuel celinoid, seems to be working, clicking when i turn the key on. It will run strong with no load. At idle, it sounds like it is grasping for air. It will start to idle down, hickup, gain some RPMS, and do it all over again. I have the rpms at 1500 with no load. I'm lost for options, the motor only has 105 hrs on it. I find it hard to imagine that rings or cylenders are bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Your compression sounds low. Did you hold your carb open while rollin the engine over. X2 on what Coon sad. |

Did you mean you set the valves at .005 or did you really set them at .0005? If you set them at .0005 that is to tight and probably keeping the valves off the seat when the engine is hot. That could explain your poor compression readings. Do a leak down test on the engine instead of a compression test. Listen to where the leakage is coming from. |

I'm sure he ment .005 b/c it would be a lil hard to set a valve at .0005 and keep it that tight after you tighten the jam jut... .004 to .006 is what briggs calls for I don't think he would try something like .0005.... A half thousands on valves is tight!!! |

Take a look at intake manifold gaskets, sometimes a crack developes, and that cylinder runs abit lean. Had it happen on18hp Van. |
