the motors also come with a 50 amp charging system instead of 20. they have a different ignition with a lighter flywheel???that is supposed to idle better and have better throttle response. and also a different fuel pump set up so there are no problems with vapor lock or a need for an external fuel pump. i will be pickin up my rig next weekend or the week after and i will post up some pics and a review when i get it.

kyle at GT said that briggs has been working on building a SS exhaust for a few months. Glad they are willing to try to do something that will help the MM guys, even thought we are a small percentage of their customers.

Hey dog walker is it possible for a briggs service center to replace the charging system on older motors with the 50 amp charging system?

That I do not know,if it would just be the stator and rectifier it would not be bad but I don't know what else you would have to change to switch over

This new chargins system came out in 2003...

http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/displ ... ocid=22748

http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/displ ... ocID=76236

Page that shows details and part numbers... #841178
http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/miscp ... tor_id.pdf
It does not show the 61 Series (35 HP) motor but it shows the 54 Series (31 HP).

Need a Briggs guy to explain why its not listed for the 35 HP as an option.

Post subject:  Re: Marine grade motor??

details of the new motor better explained

- Digital CDI Ignition that allows motors to run at a low idle or trolling
speed. This is ideal for docking, decoy retrieval and trailering.

- Lighter Flywheel means a more responsive engine.

- Stainless Steel Muffler resists corrosion
in saltwater and brackish water.

- High-Capacity Fuel Pump
runs cooler and delivers
better performance.

- 20/50 Amp Alternator to run
electronic clutches, a fish
finder, GPS, running lights,
finder lights, or a radio.
