I have a 22hp 4 stroke longtail, and was wondering which fuel would be better.

Currently where i live i have access to regular pump 92 octane and ethanol free 87 octane. Knowing that the 92 oct would need additive and the 87 doesn't, but the ethanol free is only 87 octane, is one of these better than the other? meaning, which one do y'all recommend i use?

87 is fine unless you've modded the engine. If you have higher compression, you need the added octane.

Okay cool. All I've done is open the jets a little bit.

All fuels use "clean burn" additives as per federal mandates...

Only Chevron uses liquid techron - most others use solid powder based additives...

If you buy a new Yamaha outboard they will tell you only run Chevron - nuf said !

I only run Chevron 93 in my MM - outboards - chainsaws -- lawnmowers - etc etc...

Additives - no except Stabil marine at end of season where tank is built in...

Small portable tanks should be dumped if fuel is over a month old...

Gas is like milk - you don't drink old milk and adding new milk to old milk stills tastes bad...

Seafoam at least twice a year, fuel stabilizer if its gonna set up more than a couple weeks, close all fuel tank vents if possible, and always use non ethanol if at all possible.

Next fuel up - use a clean glass jar - fill it and put it on a shelf....

In a month go look for yourself at the white goo that drops out to the bottom of the jar.....

Adding Stabil or seafoam will keep it from souring and changing colors but the white goo will still be there....

Guess they can't sell Yamahas in Wisconsin. There isn't any Chevrons around here.

A little Berryman B12 works a lot better than that overpriced Seafoam and straight Toluene is better yet for carb cleaning.
