 1646 skiff with a 23 swomp
Looking for some expert opinions. I'm going to have a custom skiff built here in the next month. Wondering what size would be best for the back water 23. I'm going with 3/16 bottom and 1/8 sides. I've owned larger boats with surface drives, I'm going back to a longtail. Wondering if anybody has ran one of those motors on a similar sized hull? Just want to know performance numbers and draft characteristics. Any opinions or facts would be great.

 Re: 1448 1548 1546 1646 1648 skiff with a 23 swomp
I am running a 1542 true flat square chine with a gd 23 lt. Empty, about 22, fully loaded in duck hunt mode with two men, about 17. A 1648 true flat light weight jon should be the same loaded down maybe 1mph down if empty. Do not buy a welded mv hull with your longtail. It will be a pig. Welded flat bottom is fine if light weight. IF I were doing it over again I would buy the Go Devil 18x38 round chine.

What did Arlen recommend? And did he start building boats? I would think 16 range would be perfect. You could even go 17. I think woodie buster will chime in. He is getting good speeds.

Definitely go 16. I think you might loose speed and draft more if you went 15 or 14

I'm running a 1648 War Eagle. As far as production hulls go, I love it. If I was having a custom hull built, it'd be a 1646, maybe 1644. My 23 SWOMP blows me away on my War Eagle. I'd love to try it on a good mud hull though!

I think 16x42 is a really good match for the 23. I run a 16x42 weldbilt. Not a true flat bottom but it gets the job done running 21 with two 190 lb guys.
