 Side wall dents?
Dented both sides on my boat running through ice and was wondering if I could hammer the dents back out or just leave them. Haven't bent or manipulated to much aluminum before. It is about two feet long and about two inches up from the bottom of the boat to the side wall. Boat is a go devil and assuming it is .125 on the side but could be wrong. Welds are all still good.

 Re: Side wall dents?
Get someone on the outside with a backup( 2x6 or sledge hammer) and take another sledge on the inside and hammer them out. Once you get it somewhat smoothed out you can take a smaller hammer and work it out until its all smooth!
I did this to my express. Woman gave it to me and a tree fell over the front and right side of it. We beat it out and replace gunnel and bow and you can't tell anything was wrong with it.
Sent from my beeper.

 Re: Side wall dents?
Nice sized hammer and someone holding a sandbag (makes each lick count there is alot of spring back in alu.)to the opposite side makes a huge diff too.

 Re: Side wall dents?
What does it do to the aluminum? Will it be weak or brittle?

 Re: Side wall dents?
Weakens it. Just like any other metal...the more u bend or manipulate it the weaker it gets.
