Post 1754 vs 1854
I have been wanting a 1754 but I am curious about what yall think about hunting out of the boat and a blind of an 1854. To me it just seems big. I know its only a foot but just seems big. I realize I may get better performance and living on the coast this is a trout machine first ducks second. 12 month boat. Appreciate any opinions

Don't know anybody that wishes they had a shorter boat.

I'd go 18'

Speed is a bit of an issue but I am going to have a Yamaha f60 or 70 on the boat outside of duck season. I will probably go 1754. The hull is still 18+ so it will still handle rougher water rather well.

I would go 18 for sure. Especially if you have an outboard to power it nine months out if the year!

I have an 18x60, I hunt out of it. I don't have a blind on it, I build around it or jump in a cane patch. Its harder to hide but I enjoy the room. I wouldn't own anything smaller.

There are some drawbacks to a bigger boat. There is only 1' difference, but the bigger boats are harder to maneuver and aren't as easy to hide from ducks. I have a 1660 and when I'm hunting by myself, I would like to have a smaller boat. A 1854 will be great when your hunting with friends, but by yourself or with just one other person, you may wish you had the smaller boat instead.

I went from a 19'10 x 50 to a 17'10 x 48 and won't look back. I'm 2' shorter and a little narrower at the nose. As far as load carrying capacity, I haven't seen one bit of change. Speed, the smaller hull is faster by about 2-3 mph, but I also took weight in mind when I built it, its also lighter. If your worried about performance, you won't see anything with 1' difference. But as others said, a 18' boat from one isn't an 18' boat for someone else. Most measure from transon. Gator trax is the only one I know of that doesn't take into consideration the hunt deck.

Go big I have a 1754 and its plenty room for 3 possibly 4 with a blind on it but you will always want more room.

Post Re: 1754 vs 1854
Because of the length with the hunt deck I am thinking of just going with the 1754. The only thing is that I am going with the extended front deck and cat walks and I am just a bit worried about floor area. I know I will have a ton of storage with the cat walks and hatches. I may actually only go catwalk on one side. I am planning on this boat lasting me a really long time. I want this boat to be perfect so I am taking my time planning it out.

I have a 1754 and it is big... having said that, you will not nind the extra 10 min it took you to hide your boat during duck season when you are fishing out of it the rest of the year. I am going to add some type of cat walks to mine. They are nice. Either way you are gonna be happy.

I am excited about the cat walks. I am going to wait and look at both sizes then make my decision
